Couple Command Problem

I am using the Couple command in TRS2004, and it seems that the list of carriages/trucks that can be coupled to by means of this command is restricted to 9.

I hope I am wrong about this, but if I am right, is it possible to use 2 instances of the command, which would give me a further 9 choices.

Can anyone suggest how I can get round this?
I'm not keen on using the Couple At Trackmark command, as I have found in the past, that it only works when the carriage being coupled to is in exactly the right place rlative to the trackmark.

Hi Ian,

Have you looked at the Couplez command? I think this allows for a longer list.

Atilabarut's 'Couple to vehicle facing trackmark' allows any distance between the vehicle and the trackmark. I have found it near bombproof...

Re Couple commands

Thank you both for your replies.

I have been trying the couple at trackmark command with no avail! I have tried reversing the direction of the trackmark, but it still doesn't work!

Any further advice that you can give me would be welcome!

With regard to the couplez command. I did try this some time ago, but I didn't have much luck with it!

CoupleToVehicle,<kuid:131986:210003> Driver command that couples the train to a vehicle in the scene. This command is exactly the same as the original couple command except that it allows coupling to any vehicle in the scene, provided that the vehicle allows coupling and that it is free for coupling at the time this command is issued.

I know this post from John is many years old, but I wonder if this command actually exists. I cannot find it anywhere. I'm assuming that it is the inverse of "Uncouplez" which lets you specify a vehicle by its position in the consist, rather than the absolute number of the vehicle, which is what "Couple" requires.
Thanks,
Mick.

Hi Mick

I've always been dissatisfied with the standard couple command as it seems very unnatural to have a locomotive charge at a consist, slow almost to a halt and then charge at it again to couple up. After a bit of trial and error I now use commands written by atilabarut a number of years ago.

The ones I use are "ApproachToTrain" (kuid:131986:1079), "SetDCCThrottle" (kuid2:131986:1018:2) and "Couple Ahead" (kuid2:131986:1015:2).

The way that I use them for coupling at King's Cross station for example, is to issue the following sequence of commands

"SetDCCThrottle" command with the throttle set to about 0.27 (about 8mph, line speed)
"ApproachToTrain" command set to 20 metres
"SetDCCThrottle" command with the throttle set to about 0.22 (about 5mph)
"ApproachToTrain" command set to 10 metres
"SetDCCThrottle" command with the throttle set to about 0.15 (about 2 mph)
"Couple Ahead".

This sounds a bit long winded but the commands are stored in the Schedule Library and it then only needs one copy command to use them with any consist. If different speeds are required for other areas then I just save another sequence with different speeds and/or distances in the Schedule Library.

If the loco has to travel quite a distance to couple it may be neccesary to use a Drive/Navigate via trackmark command to get it near enough to the consist to call the above sequence.

These commands don't need to know which vehicle they are coupling to, they just work and produce a nice realistic approach to any consist with an almost perfect couple every time.

Regards

Brian
