Hello BDP,

What are the geographic coordinates of the area that you want?

When receiving the coordinates, I will see if I can find the necessary info. If the info is available, I will try to make the dem-file.

I'm using dropbox so that you can download the file. You don't have to install dropbox ( I will just give you the download link ). A dem-file can sometimes be large. Do you have enough download capacity?

Best regards

Hello BDP,

Ok, thank you for the coordinates.

I will start my research.

Does this route start in Chicago and ends in Port Huron?

Is it possible to give me some other cities on this line in order to make an exact dem-file?

Best regards

Hello BDP,

Research completed.

Is it ok to make a dem file with the following coordinates?

41 N - 81 to 87 W
42 N - 81 to 87 W

Is New grid width 25 meter ok ?

Best regards

Hello BDP,

I have found an error in the files which are necessary to create the Dem-file.

Will try to resolve it.

This Dem-file will be large in size.

Best regards

I make Chicago, IL to Port Huron, MI roughly 342 miles. That is a whale of a route. I suggest you break it down into perhaps 50-mile segments otherwise you'll never get it loaded.

Hay BDP, if you do make this route, and you do cut it up into 50 mile or so sections. Think I could help out at all? Id love to do the Durand area. A friend of mine has about 100 different maps of the tracks, yards, and diamonds. Hes a huge GTW fan and LOVES that area. He had it modeled on his old layout and it was a nice set up. I've been itching to build that area, but cant for the life of me figure out how to make a DEM and get it in TRS.

That means if you are willing to let me help you out, I'd at least need that area as a blank route. But I feel that my skills, and knowledge are up to the point where I could take on a project like this. And I am all ready really excited to get started. If you want, I can post some screen shots of other work I have done in the past.

Hello BDP,

The error within the file which contains the information for the zone 42N 82W could not be resolved.

However, I don't think you will need it anyway.

This Dem-file is large - larger than 1GB.

Do you still need it?

Best regards

Hay Kurt, is this just them DEM file? Or a blank route? If its just a DEM, could I ask for just the area from Durand MI to Detroit MI, about 30-40 miles as a blank route? I know it might be a bit much, and you dont have to. I'm just asking. Id really love to build that line, but just cant seam to wrap my head around how to use DEM and its tools.

Hello JIb228,

A) This is only the Dem-file of the Chicago - Middle Durand - Port Huron area.

B) If you would like to have the Durand MI to Detroit MI route then I need to do some extra work.

That is, make the dem-file, make a georeferenced map and a route file and everything in Trainz.

Therefore, What line is the train following and what line do you want to have?

On the amtrak website - amtrak route atlas I found the following tracklines.

1) Durand MI - East Lansing - Jackson - Ann Arbor - Dearborn - Detroit

or

2) Durand MI - East Lansing - Battle Creek - Albion - Jackson - Ann Arbor - Dearborn - Detroit

C) About the Trainz settings

What do you want as

1) Route Name : ?
2) Session Name : I advice Default
3) Geographical region: United States
4) Working scale : ?
5) Working units : Metric or Imperial ?

D) I only have TS12 since a few weeks, and have not yet done a lot of experiments with it. So if you don't mind I will make the route in TS2010.

E) As I also have other things to do ( ;) ) , this job can take a few days and hopefully no errors appear.

Best regards

Thanks Kurt, Id really appreciate it, and there is no rush. But Id be following the old GTW, now CN parts of the route. Id like real scale, imperial, and you can just name it CN Durand and I can rename it at a latter time. Ive got TRS12, but could import it into TRS12. But as I said, I am only asking, if it takes you a few days, or a few weeks I dont mind.

The more of the rail lines you include the better. I like the Durand area, and can see having some nice sessions in that area. But like I said, I am only asking. But if you make it, THANK YOU!!

Hello JIb228,

I have a couple of jobs ( my own and for some countrymen ) in progress, but will try to make your route.

Keep checking the forum ;) in the coming days.
I will inform you about the building.

At this time I have no idea how big the route will be. I'm using dropbox for download possibility. You do not have to install dropbox - a link will lead you to the download area.

A) What do you want as line?

1) Durand MI - East Lansing - Jackson - Ann Arbor - Dearborn - Detroit

or

2) Durand MI - East Lansing - Battle Creek - Albion - Jackson - Ann Arbor - Dearborn - Detroit

B) About the Trainz settings

following will be used

1) Route Name : CN Durand
2) Session Name : Default
3) Geographical region: United States
4) Working scale : real
5) Working units : Imperial

C) I will place a track in the route : you can change the used track afterwards.

D) As an experiment, I will try to make the route in Trs12. If errors appear, I will make the route in Trs10.

Best regards

Well if my knowledge is right, leaving Durand and heading east would take you on the CN Flint sub through flint and ending in Port Huron. Going West out of there takes you to Lansing, then Battle Creek, then eventually Chicago. I dont want to go that far. From Durand to Port Huron is ok. What Id love to have is north out of Durand on the GLC towards Vernon and possibly beyond. If you did that id only ask to go from Durand as far as Owosso. But if you did more I would not mind. And once again Kurt, thank you so much. If you could, when you have the time, make that area for me. Id be making part of the CN rout that BDP wants, and part of the GLC/TSBY line that I would like to have.

This is where I can swing this topic back to what BDP was going for. BDP, if I can get this made, we could merge what ever you make and have a huge route going.

Hello JIb228,

I will make the route Port Huron - Lapeer - Flint - Durand - Owosso - East Lansing

Do I have to use the NAD27 Geographic system?

I dont know what NED27 is....

But that is all right.

But there is another line, freight only that runs from Durand to Owosso. This map here might help: http://www.michigan.gov/documents/MDOT_Official_Rail_130897_7.pdf

Zoom in near Flint and you'll see HE between Durand and Owosso. If its possible, could you include that line? Thats the line I was referring too.
It would be Port Huron - Lapeer - Flint - Durand - East Lansing with Durand - Vernon - Courunna - Owasso.

I hate to sound picking, but just adding what I know.

What BDP wanted was the whole red lone from Port Huron to where it leaves the state at Edwardsburg and beyond. Wich, if I did the area from Port Huron to East Lansing, and form Owosso to Durand, that would get a little bit of it out of the way for him and provide plenty of operation for a few sessions all on its own.

Hello JIb228,

Oeps Typo error - I meant NAD 27 .

The North American Datum, or NAD, is the official geodetic datum that is prevalent in North America. There are two kinds of datum used in North America, namely, the North American Datum of 1927 (NAD 27) and the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD 83).
Although the NAD 27 and NAD 83 are both geodetic systems, each one of them is based on different measurements. When considering their measurement, the North American Datum 27 was based on Clarke Ellipsoid, which dealt with the manual surveying of the whole continent. The foundation of the North American Datum 83 was based on the Geodetic Reference System (GRS) of 1980, which dealt with the approximate measurement of the earth as a whole.
The NAD 27 dealt with the horizontal control datum for the US, and the NAD 83 dealt with the horizontal control datum for the US, Mexico, Canada and Central America.

I could be that other people would like to have the same route and merge it with their own build route and it is possible that their route is based on the NAD27-system

The following info was very useful - thanks for that : http://www.michigan.gov/documents/MDOT_Official_Rail_130897_7.pdf

I will start with the following route : Port Huron - Lapeer - Flint - Durand - East Lansing with Durand - Vernon - Courunna - Owasso.

Hello JIb228,

The route has been created. I has been done in the NAD27-system.
First tried it in TRS12, but the google earth scenery was not imported. I have no idea why this happens () and I will have to investigate why this issue occured.
Redid everything in trainz 2010 and all was available.

As said in previous replies - I have placed a track , which you can change.

The route is Port Huron - Lapeer - Flint - Durand - Vernon - Corunna - Owassa ( just upto the Country club Owasso )

from Durand I continued until Battle creek. ( size is approx 342Mb large )

As an experiment, I continued the route from Battle Creek passing Detroit and going up to Pontiac.

Questions :

1) The complete route from Port Huron to Pontiac is to large ( more than 650mb ). Importing the content into trainz gives you the Taddeamon.exe error. Trainz cannot import such large files.

However, if you want, I can make the route Battle Creek to Pontiac and then you can merge the routes together. Merging in Trainz 2010 is no problem, but there seems to be a problem when one tries to merge routes in TRS12.

2) Do you want the Dem file ? More than 500mb large

Best regards
