Correct Period Road Vehicles

I notice that some payware routes have road vehicles that fit in with the era represented and the region. Is there a way to do this in surveyor?

Those are "stored" as part of the region/area.

So what you do is figure out what the region/area is for the payware route you are talking about and make a new route with that region/area selected.

This can be changed afterwards.
There are a few "extra" regions/area's on the DLS (but I can check as I am not behind my game PC at the moment).

When making an era, is there a specific script or something special that you have to add to the cars that you are going to use?

That makes sense, the models are I guess in my content for them to appear in the payware route.

So my next question is where would I go to find the specific era and region on the payware route? Followed by where would I go to change it in my own route? I can't remember seeing those settings in the options in surveyor.

In Content Manager you can view the config.txt file of the route and this will show the kuid of the region used. You can then find the region in CM unless it has been obsoleted by a later version, e.g United States, -1:7804 does not show up in TS12 SP1 and later because it was obsoleted by -25:927.
Using Edit in Explorer is probably the best way to change the Region of routes that have already been created.

I'm using "1920s-Era USA Region" by maxwerks for my Yosemite Valley RR route from about 1927-28. He also has a "1950s-Era USA Region". Take a look at the config.txt file for each which will give you an idea on how to create your own region.

That worked like a dream, thanks. Managed to do the changes in content creator.

Content Creator works well for this because it will list the regions, however, I am always reluctant to use Content Creator because it will update the build number of the asset to your build number which can introduce errors in the asset because of the different requirements of later versions.

Ahhh.... oh dear. When you say introduce errors, in what? Would this be if I installed TS12, as from what I gather N3V aren't going to update TS10 any more.

When you use Content Creator if the asset is not the same build as your Trainz version then it always updates the asset to your build number. When the asset is committed it will be validated against the requirements of your version number. This is only a problem with earlier assets where certain tags in the config.txt file might have changed, e.g. thumbnail (a single line) and thumbnails which is a container and includes the width and height of the image and allows more than one image. Incorrect spelling of tag names was overlooked in early versions but results in errors in later versions. There are many more things that the latest version of Trainz does not like but many are easily corrected by editing the config.txt file.
And yes Trainz12 is much stricter about what is in the config.txt file and no doubt TANE will be at least as strict.
