Converting Railroads into trails

Thanks goodness N3V is developing "Rails to Trails Simulator 2013". But seriously,folks, Thai1on I have walked part of the Little Miami and am very fond of it. My sister lives 100 feet from the now bike-path. The great state Ohio has lost way too many railroads. If tax laws had been changed 25 years sooner,railroads would have not felt the need to abandon low/no profit lines so soon.

The Boonton Line (Montclair-Hoboken) is eleven miles long, plus falling bridges, and for about a quarter mile, on the NJ Transit/Metro North WOH Mainline/Port Jervis Line.

But in that quote, if your talking about me, then I may report your post.

What pleases me is when this is reversed. Here we have had 4lines closed for 50 years re-opened to passengers and doing well and a fifth in the pipeline. Having walked along one of those it will be funny that trains will be back.

Here in the UK a number of disused railway lines have been converted into foot and cycle paths. Locally, several sections of the old Midland & South West Junction Railway have been given this treatment. It is a very pleasing but occasionally uncanny experience walking these trails, was that the sound of the wind or the ghost of an old train passing by?

Equally there are many miles of abandoned rails which have been left to nature and can only be walked with extreme difficulty, together with the ever present dangers of hidden catchpits, evil smelling black mud that you sink in up to the knees (been there, done that) or irate landowners chasing you off!

lol! yeah you have to remember .. they wait FOR EVER!!! for that track to be able to be converted into a trail ... like the p&n tracks in belmont north carolina ... they havent been used since 1973 or something like that and rails to trails hasnt done a thing to the tracks... tracks that havent been used since like 1950 something... dont have a future really... fallen bridges ... railbed washed away... you might as well just make it a bike trail..
