Hello, i have a question where i want answer fast. Is it possible to "convert" an trainz 2010 made map to work on trainz 2009? I have somewhere heard that it could be possible. is it?
I would imagine that such a conversion would be impossible without some serious programming. The 2010 map has an extra file that enumerates the Layers (.LYR) and a second file with a -so far- unknown function (.TRC). Neither one of these files are known to 2009 so you would probably get the "no map selected" error.
Having said that, let me add that 2010 can also be installed as a Service Pack to 2009. Under these conditions perhaps it could be done.
I installed 2010 on a computer with no previous Trainz installed on it, but if you install it on a computer that already has 2009, the installer for 2010 will ask you if you wish to merge it with 2009 or make a fresh install. This is what I meant.

Probably not. One cannot just go deleting files and expect the route to work. My investigations into the innards of the files shows that references between files exist. If you were to remove one or two files, the rest of them won't work correctly.

I have actually exported a CDP file of a route(ts2010) I have going and imported it into Trainz2009 as long as you keep everything in the route layer it loaded into Ts2009 fine and ran as expected. I done this as the route I am doing a friend wanted to check it out adn only has 2009 and I am using 2010 now. Not sure what would happen if it had the layers being used though.
Note : There was one glitch that happened once, said file did not recognize the version number 3.2, so all we did was export the route from Ts2009 and deleted it from CM and re-imported it into Ts2009 and all was well.
May have just been lucky I don't know but that route is still working today in both versions, and he gets regular updated cdp files from me for him to try it.
