Content Manager won't launch

Hello folks. My problem is this:

I have both TRS2006 and TRS2009; both are recent acquisitions. In both cases I can't launch the Content Manager. I get a Windows system error message - the one that says "Sorry boss, this one's gotta be closed" - in both cases. Surveyor and Driver work fine in both versions, but Content Manager does not and never has. I've read accounts of people having trouble with the Manager after it's run a few times, but mine hasn't run once.

Has anyone encountered this problem before? If so, please direct me to the appropriate forum thread, FAQ, or documentation site. Or, tell me how you managed to solve it (if you could).

If it matters, my computer is a Dell Dimension 4550, running Windows XP, and using 4gig of RAM. Trainz2006 runs pretty well in DirectX mode. Trainz2009 is slow and stalls from time to time, but so far it hasn't had a fatal crash. OpenGL doesn't work in either case; I suspect that's part of the problem. Another possibility is the Internet connection.

Thanks in advance,

RJPugh

Spot on -
Content Manager uses OpenGL - you'll need to find a version that runs on your system....

Mr. Price: Thank you. In the immortal words of Shrek, "Well that explains a lot." I'll be upgrading the video driver tonight (I had to download the package at work - it's BIG!); hopefully that will solve some of it. It's my understanding that OpenGL comes bundled with a lot of modern graphics stuff.

But if it doesn't... can anyone suggest where I can look for the recent drivers? I've found the OpenGL web site to be a bit murky.

Thanks in advance (again),

nVidia video drivers support OpenGL. I am not sure about the others.

Hi,

So very formal!

Laptop display drivers are not always easy - I think (second-hand info) that you'll need to try the Dell website for a Dell laptop driver...

Normally I'd look at the "my computer" - then the hardware settings to discover what the hardware says it is. (the major companies are ATI and nVidia, though their chioset may be licenced to others under different names)

Once you know the hardware, look up the manufacturer's site online ad see if thy have a specific upgrade for the hardware. Be careful - not all the hardware is compatible with all the drivers.
(If you use Windows update that this may pick up the upgrade (as an optional).

Greetings all!

Upgrading my video driver solved the problem; OpenGL is now running fine and the Content Manager is working. I'm still running the simulator in DirectX mode, though I will try it in OpenGL and see how I like it.

Note that upgrading the video driver caused some problems with some of my *other* software, but so far nothing that I couldn't solve. Such is the nature of Windows software.
:D
Thanks again!
