Content Manager Tabs

Hi. Im working through undertstanding how Content Manager works. Perhaps someone would be kind enough to respond to my queries.

Favourite Locos. Where? Are these the ones you nominate as a ‘Favorite’ in the Railyard menu?
Does all rolling stock in Railyard automatically appear in Content manager?
If so why have Railyard other than to provide an opportunity to view an item.
Does all the rolling stock in Content Manager appear in the appropriate Surveyor tab menu?
What’s the difference between ‘Locally modified’ and ‘My Content’
Cheers

Hi nimec,

First question, I am not sure I never use favorites
Second question, Not always, some older items do not appear in CMP
Third question, Railyard can be used to check if a particular item will appear in the surveyor list, can also be used for screenshots of an item.
Fourth question, If an item is faulty it may not appear in surveyor, or it may appear in RED but not be able to be placed on the rails.
Fifth Question, Locally modified is anything you have opened for edit then re-committed, Your content is an item with your kuid number.

Hope this helps,
Bill69

Thanks Bill69. Your response actually leads me into the next problem I have with CM.
I understand the concept of dependencies and of Missing Dependencies, [as I have one missing in an asset I have attempted to install] but what does Open for Edit mean where the same asset can appear and indeed many others appear with yellow or red exclamation marks, which when right clicked, [View Dependencies] shows the dependency jigsaw piece but without the question mark and the notes at the bottom of the window says 0 missing, 0 errors etc but if View Errors and Warnings is opened I get a message
Warning: This asset requires a shadow mesh, but the mesh table does not contain one.

For example for the green coloured carriage, content manager Open for Edit shows:
[Yellow exclamation mark] NZGR Aa 2nd class coach green,<kuid2:81997:100032:1>
Warning: This asset requires a shadow mesh, but the mesh table does not contain one.
However the carriage appears in the surveyor menu and can be placed on a track.
[Red Exclamation Mark] NZGR Aa 2nd class coach red,<kuid2:81997:10002:1>
Warning: This asset requires a shadow mesh, but the mesh table does not contain one.
The same message for each one, but the Red coloured carriage is in Red print in the surveyor tab menu and cannot be placed on track.
i.e the green one works and the red one doesn’t, yet both the same message.

The manual is silent on the process of Editing, other than to say you cant edit non local items. I understand [p 45 ] how to get an asset to the Open for Edit page and presumably Edit means to try to repair that asset if it will not work after it has been downloaded, by finding the missing dependencies or whatever, and downloading them? If so, do they naturally find the host asset or is it something that has to be done manually?

Hi Nimec,

First the errors. Items with a yellow exclamation mark you can ignore, they will be minor errors like the missing shadow. Items with a red exclamation mark have to be fixed to appear in surveyor. You mention the red NZGR red Aa 2nd class coach. With this problem right click the item and select "view dependancies", then at the bottom of the window select "view in main window". One of the dependancies may have aither a red exclamation mark or a red jigsaw piece, this will be the offending item, right click on it and select "view errors & warnings". Once you find the problem post back and I will try to tell you how to fix it.

As for "open for edit" this decripts the item and places it in your edit folder, it is usually not required to be used, to edit an item right click on it and select "edit in explorer" then double click on the config.txt file. Will guide you through this when you let me know the error.

Cheers,

Content Manager Status Symbols

Here are the status symbols and their names:

Hi Bill69
Tried that however when I view it in Main Window it no longer has the red exclamation mark, yet the Red exclamation mark is there [in Bold] no matter what other tab it is viewed in. If I R click it anyway in View in Main Window and hit View Errors and Warnings, then it comes up 0 errors 0 warnings. I cant work it out. If we cant get this one I have plenty of others with a Red exclamation mark we can try or should we persist with this one first?

Hi Itareus and Bob
Thanks for your responses. I found that 2006 Content Manager manual on the UK site and even printed it off so that I could sit down and have a good read of it however 2010 has progressed a lot from there and while it is a big help it hasnt been able to solve my problems. The section on Content Manager in the 2010 Manual is very brief and I believe its written assuming a a prior knowledge of Trains. OK if you had 2004 or 2006 but difficult for a novice to get to grips withif you are just getting into it. Thanks for the icons Bob. That has helped clarify a few things for me
Cheers

Hi nimec,

Yes we can try some of the others, but I am wondering about that Aa coach as I have it running perfectly. CMP has been known to have some glitches sometimes, try opening it for edit in Explorer then re-commit and see what happens.

Cheers,
Bill69

Hi Bill69, Im a bit embarassed about all this but I dont know what you mean. I have tried Internet explorer but nothing there and tried Windows Explorer and into 2010 and Content Manager.exe file but cant find any edit file there either or able to 're-commit it' as you say. What actually am I looking for do, and how do I do it when I find it. I have never had a game on a computer before this one so its all new to me. Only used a PC for business reasons.
Cheers

....cant find any edit file there either or able to 're-commit it' ....

A bit more detail.....

Open Trainz Content Manager.
Locate the faulty item.
Right click on the faulty item in CM, you will get a "popup" (context) menu.
From the menu select "Edit" then "Open for edit" (or "Edit in Explorer").
Right click on the faulty item in CM again.
From the menu select "Edit" then "Commit".

See if that clears the fault.

Content Manager tabs

Hi Itareus and Bill69.Thanks for that. It worked for the carriage but not for any of the other red exclamation marks I have.
All my problem assets are listed under the Open for Edit tab and after fixing the carriage I went through the rest. 12 red exclamation marks and 15 yellow.
It seemed to fix them all so I shut down the PC and restarted and when it came back up they all appeared fixed but when I checked in Surveyor they were not. So I checked again and under Open for Edit all appeared well but the same assets listed under two other tabs, Locally Modified and Current Search were still Red and Yellow, all except the carriage. I went through the process of Edit/commit again under these new tabs but no changes this time. At least the cariage is fixed, but all the rest still have the red exclamation Marks.With the exception of one, they are all NZ locos and units so I know they work in 2010.
I will go back to Bill69's earlier post and try his instructions again.
Cheers

Nimec,

It's possible you may be looking at assets which have multiple faults - that is fault(s) with the asset itself and also a fault with some dependancies. You need to find the asset (or its dependancy) that shows a red [!] icon and also shows errors when "View Errors and Warnings" is selected and then sort out the faults shown.

If you want, you could post a couple of the faulty KUIDs here and I will check them out - then I might be able to give you an example fix to work from.

OK. I have done that. The errors are

Error: The Tag '0' is not permitted within a container of type '0'.
Error: The Tag '1' is not permitted within a container of type '1'.
Warning: This asset requires a shadow mesh, but the mesh table does not contain one.

The loco is NZR EO 74 by Fender 849 Kuid 309161:1....
The errors are also the same for The NZR GANZ and a couple of others NZR locos. Cheers

Nimec,

I can't find that asset or any locos (only MUs) by Fender849 on the DLS (via CM3.3). Was it from the website DLS or an external site?

Anyway try this:

Right click the asset and select "View Config File".

Copy the contents of the config to the windows clipboard and paste them into another forum post so that we can check them.

Basically there are some "illegal" lines in that config that need to be deleted, but since they are in a container I'd like to check the config before saying what to delete.

(The shadow "Warning" can be ignored for the moment).

Hi Itareus/Bill69. I decided to delete from Content Manager all the NZR assets that were giving me problems and to download and instal them again from Trainzone.co.nz , however the same problems arose so I deleted again etc
I have now deleted, downloaded and installed them 3 times today and still the same message comes up
In fact the Drewery railcar which was working OK now also has the same message
Error: The Tag '0' is not permitted within a container of type '0'.
Error: The Tag '1' is not permitted within a container of type '1'.
Error: Attachment point 06 (a.sit05) in 'queues\passengers\attachment-points' was not found.
I know from Sirgibby and Bill69 that they do work in 2010 but where do I go form here? Any pointers?
I have a problem with Johnsonville too. I read Fenders comments about how to download it even printed it off so that I followed it exactly but still it has a problem. Is this normal with Trains or should I just sell my computer?
Cheers

Sorry Itareus, I have just seen your reply. It must have been over the page. Thanks. Will do that tomorrow and get back to you Cheers

Hi nimec,

I have just downloaded the EO loco to TS2010 and found the errors.

bogeys
{
0
{
bogey <kuid:309161:100120>
0
}

1
{
bogey <kuid:309161:100120>
1
}
}

This part of the config should not have the '0' and '1' below the word bogey.

Delete '0' under the first bogey and enter "reversed" Tab Tab Tab "0" note that's a zero not an oh. Do the same under the second bogey (delete the "1") then save and commit. This should end up as follows:-

bogeys
{
0
{
bogey <kuid:309161:100120>
reversed 0
}

1
{
bogey <kuid:309161:100120>
reversed 0
}
}

That should fix the problem, do the same with the other EO loco too. I have checked them on the track and the wheels rotate the right way.

If you can tell us the other errors in other rollingstock we might be able to fix them too.

Cheers,
Bill69

HI Bill69/Itareus. Have found my way to the config file by right clicking etc and the errors that appear but it is a View Config file and will not let me delete the 0 and the 1 as you suggest. It seems to be read only for some reason. I was so frustrated with it that I clicked on Edit, Revert to Original and lo and behold it cleared the problem on each one that I did it to except the GANZ Magveg. It is not an option with this one and is greyed out. So a lot of the problems are now fixed.
However the error in the GANZ is the same as above ie the 0 and the 1 so if you can tell me how I can change it frorm read only, then I can have a go at it again.I tried Edit in Explorer, Edit in Config files etc and just about all options that were there but I was not able to delete the 0
The other one I have is with the Ka tenders however I forgot to copy the errors before I started this post so they can wait until tomorrow. Cheers
