Content manager Problems

Hey everyone,

I've been trying to use CMP for the past few weeks and it is not working. It is getting to the point where it is freezing when all I do is select something. I can't update my files, nor can I commit anything. This is getting beyond a joke. I haven't had this problem before and I have had TRS2006 for nearly a year. Is there any way I can bypass CMP and do the updates manually. I have searched the forums before and tried removing the assets.tdx file, but that doesn't help. I cancel the updating assets and finding my profile. Also, it keeps saying it's querying my FCT status and won't stop querying it. My FCT expired months ago and I am not in the position to purchase another. Is there anything else I can do besides uninstalling and re-installing everything?

Cheers,

Paul

Has a setting changed on your PC? Does your firewall have exceptions filed for CMP? Have you recently changed antivirus programs? When you deleted the assets.tdx file, did you look in your cache folder for an assets.bku file as well?

One thing I have noticed is that hitting the CLEAR button where all of the stuff from th DLS is listed seems to fix it for me.

Go to your "Cache" Folder and copy the "Assets.bku" folder... then go back to your main TRS 2006 folder and PASTE the "Assets.bku" folder... RE-NAME it "Assets.tdx" ... then, and this is important, restart your computer. See if this helps.

If this doesn't help, then I don't know what for you to do.

Hmm, I don't know if this is of any help, but I found that you need patience to use the CMP in 2006. What I mean is, you fire it up and then leave it alone for at least five minutes. Go read some posts here, or drink a cup of coffee, smoke a cigarette or whatever. After that it seems to behave within reason, allthough that's not garanteed.:hehe:
Personally I find it very sad that a commercial program comes with such a flacky piece of essential software that nobody seems to worry about, apart from its users of course.

here's what i do:

use ftp downloads only

make sure you're not connected to the net, disconect the modem from the phone line or whatever physical connection is envolved if neccessary

run cmp, it will bitch about not being able to do its automatic thing, too bad for it.

import cdp from wherever on your system you've downloaded them to, you can set in your browser where you want it to put downloads.

commit all of them you've imported (import cdp is under cmp's file menue)

exit cmp (and trainz)

reboot computer

plug modem/comm connection (but DON'T start cmp again untill you've disconnected it again and are ready to reboot after having done so)

the "secret" is to ONLY open cmp when it PHYSICALLY CAN'T connect to the internet, and immediately reboot after using it, before doing ANYTHING else. (and to download your kuids ONLY using ftp, with cmp NOT running, not even in the background, which of course requires rebooting after any time you run it to prevent this)
