content manager not responding

Hi Sean,

Without knowing a lot of details about your system, or service packs, which version you are using, etc., of Trainz, I'm going to suggest that you wait a few minutes before turning your computer off after you've closed out Trainz or Content Manager. Either of these programs hold on to the database even though the program has closed. The reason is the application is still processing in the background and this can corrupt your database if you shutdown too soon.

Ok thanks for reply using 2010ee and pack 49933, and still no joy content manager not responding, where from here, as i have a massive route which i do not want to lose. veteran of many lost empires, do not particulary want to go to re-install and all the drama that entails, of copying out and back and re-updateing all the service packs again, so still stuck, have been in the habit of quite often running database repairs, as seems to get rid of glitches. also content manager when i exited the last time was searching for missing dependicies of which there is quite a few. also do wait for few minutes before shutdown to clear things. any help appreciated.

Try running Content Manager direct rather that via the Trainz menu.

You will find a file called "ContentManager.exe" in the TS2010 "Bin" directory. Double click on that and see if CM starts.

If it does, then run an Extended Database Repair in CM.

If it does not then you can check if anything is working in the background by check in Windows "Task Manager".

Post back if you need more help.

sorry that did not work. oh oh

There is a way to repair the database at command line - see: http://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php/TrainzUtil . You are looking for "TrainzUtil repairdatabase", see the top of that page for how to run it.

You might find a guide to this on Shane Turner's website - sorry don't have a link (Shane will probably pop up on this thread sooner or later).

After that I'm out of ideas for the moment.

Edit: Corrected the Shane's name !

If Content Manager is still not responding, there are further possibilities. By any chance did you add a large quantity of assets to the Download Helper list?

Shane

If you are able to and there's a lot of assets in the Download Helper panel, click the Clear button at the bottom of that panel before it freezes.

Can you get into Content Manager or into the game itself? I was wondering if by "not responding" you are saying that Content Manager cannot connect to the DLS. Or do you mean that Content Manager is not actually running?

If you are worried about losing your route it is possible to export your route to a cdp file using trainzutil if you know the kuid for the route.

It would be "trainzutil createCDP myroute.cdp kuid:xxxxx:xxxxx"

Note that the kuid does not have the angled brackets around it.
