I have two questions. Does anyone know if there and any tutorials for Blender specific to trainz and does anyone know where to get specific measuremnts to use say like in the creation of rolling stock and locomotives:)

Hi there,

I havn't used blender, but i think some basic trainz tutorials might be available on the wikibook. http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Trainz/Tutorial_for_Blender

Getting specific measurements and drawings is usually tricky, especially for anything unusual. It just takes a lot of research and searching for blueprints. If you know some basic figures, like length and width, its possible to make everything else look about right with some skill.

Wikibook Trainz has a very basic tutorial on how to get a scenery object into Trainz, look under Blender textures.

Other than that Trainz uses attachment points a.limfront etc. there is specific information about how to create these in Blender in the Wikibook.

Dimensions I have a library of books that contain plans for many coaches and wagons. They happen to be UK around 1920 for the most part. There are historical railway societies around two good UK ones are HMRS and the BGS ( Broad Gauge Society) these often have a library of plans.

Once you have one basic wagon or boxcar dimensions you can work approximate others. Most 40 foot boxcars for example are forty feet long. The width of a 40 and 60 boxcar are the same.

Google can produce some interesting results.

There are some basic tutorials here

The simple loco tutorial gives the placement and location of all the attachment points you need just use the information to create a wagon in Blender.

John Thank you for the suggestions. I don't really need specific measurements. You are correct if a car or loce is 40 ft long design the project to be app 40 feet long. That answers the length question but can you tell me. On average what is the approx. height and width to these consist on us routes
