Constant lag

Hi there! Ever since I installed the new trs19 update whenever, I derail anything, couple/decouple and load certain routes it lags so much to the point where the icons at the top turn into black squares and I can't even close it normally, what do I do and does it have something to do with disk space?

I am a PC Technician.
What are you Computer Specs?
Laptop or Desk Top?

I maybe can help you get it running smoother, but I need to know what I am working with?

You're asking about disk space, so does this mean you know you have little to spare? As asked, specific info is needed, but unless you're running out of space it's unlikely that's the problem. More likely you have settings too high for your pc and especially the video card, but without that info, no-one knows.

Desktop

Intel xeon3.6ghz quad core, 16gb ram, with Nvidia K2200 Quadro graphics card, SSD

The video card is the weak point. I'm surprised it supports directx 11. However it does have a score of 3,500 so it isn't impossible if you play with the sliders.

https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php ideally you want 10,000+ on the 3D score. A very nice one would be an RTX 3060 however they are fairly rare at the moment. It feels like a refurbished Dell, the problem will be the height of the video card. A GTX 1660 might be worth looking at but I'd hold back for the RTX 30 series. They promise much better price performance.

Actually you're right I am using a refurbished dell. Thanks for that! But I would say that It worked fine before the update and I am quite disappointed that the only solution is for me to spend quite a lot of money on a new graphics card.

No I'm saying the graphics card is the weak point. If it was running acceptably well before the update then there should be no reason why you shouldn't get the same frame rates out of the new version. I've run Trainz on intel's integrated graphics with a score of a few hundred with 3,500 you are probably around the average for running trainz.

Disk space can affect things, once you go above 80% full the operating system can't lay the files out quite so well and that could cause problems. 16 gig of memory should be enough. Is it everything or just one layout? Try middleton for laptops if that lags then you have a real problem if not it may just be a bit of scenery causing the lag. Sketchup can do wondrous things to performance.

Check the sliders and pull the distance one back a bit.

Thanks for the help, I have gained back more space on my disc so it is now in the blue zone, however there is still lag, now I find If I want to make it work properly I need to open the route and whether or not it's in surveyor or drive I have to wait at least an hour before doing anything. Thanks again!

try middleton for laptops. You can pick up most of the assets here: https://www.jatws.org/johnw/john.html

If that one lags then there is something odd. You shouldn't need to wait an hour especially if TS19 is on the SSD.

Disk space? I'm thinking the Cache/internet, cache/thumbnails and backups folders are full to overflowing, can be several gigabytes if never cleared out which will not be helping. Backups folder tends to get filled up when patching.
Need to be looking at your userdata folder wherever you have it located.

If you have as I suspect just a small 500GB or less SSD and nothing bigger, you can save space by disabling sleep and hibernation.

I have the same problem with the lagging when it derails or hits buffers, it could just be the computer or something with the game, but probably not from the game.
