Confusion

I received the second newsletter concerning TRS2009. I hoped the second one would clear up the confusion, but I am still confused.
TRS 2009 come in two versions; World Builder and Engineer. Now do I need both versions to get the same functionality as TRS2006? Because it looks as if World builder contains Surveyor and the Driver part of Surveyor and Engineer contains the Driver part and the download from the web part. Understanding this, I need World Builder to build my routes and then export them to Engineer to run them?
Please help me on this one.

I'm confused as to why people are still confused.

www.ts2009.com/wb.php tell you all about World Builder and
http://www.ts2009.com/en.php for info on Engineers Edition.

World Builder does everything TRS2004/TRS2006 did and more.

Engineers Edition adds a whole lot more new content.

You can upload, download, drive, operate, build, and do all your favorite Trainz things in TS2009:WBE.

In Engineers Edition (TEE) upload, download, drive and operate, but you can't edit or create routes because Surveyor is not in TEE.

So, if you want to edit routes, buy WBE. If you want to drive existing routes from previous builds but experience the new 2009 features, buy WBE.

If you don't want to experience the new features yet, and you are only looking for NEW content then wait for TEE.

If you want it all and want to support Trainz so that we can make it better and better, get 'em both :)

Tony

Tony, you still haven't answered this one, that I've seen. If you have, I apologise.

There has been word around the forums that TEE will have more upgrades to bits and pieces over WBE. So, will we be able to get a version of TS2009 that is a 'full' version (surveyor, etc), with the TEE content? Because I wouldn't see the point in getting TEE if I can't make use of all this TS2009 content... So, will having WBE cause TEE to 'update' WBE, allowing us to have all this new content + have a 'full' version of Trainz?

Sorry, if this post is a bit abrupt. Almost falling asleep here (As I guess you would be too!) :)

Tony,
Thanks for the reply. I did go to read up on the explanations. That is why I was confused. It sounded as if you buy WBE to build the routes and buy Engineer to drive the routes. If WBE has it all, than it will be the one I buy. I would really love to buy them both, but I live in a country where the monetary unit is so bad that I have to scrape the barrel just to buy one package. I am a great supporter of Trainz, don't worry.
I appreciate the answer.

WBE comes with everything - except of course, for the new content and whatever new features end up being included with EE.

I'm also a little confused as to how things will work if you do decide to purchase both editions. I'd really prefer to just have one "mega edition" installed and I hope that will be possible.

WBE

Hi Patrick,
I am glad there is backward compatibility for the routes I built. I would hate to loose my hardwork since TRS2004.
I really wished that we could get some SAR-SAS-Spoornet rolling stock. The one electric and one diesel is a bit thin.
Yes, I would also like to know how you bring the two together if you buy both. That could be an eye-opener.

Greetings,
Leon
:D

Leon

There will be a lot of SAR-SAS-Spoornet rolling stock available, trust me.

Head over to my website to see some already.

Regarding the 2 editions, I bet you can export from one (via CDP) and import into the other without hasstle.

I have read this and the other posts of the forum. So I think that if you buy WBE now, you should be able to import your Worlds into it (hopefully without too much trouble). You should be able to modify scenery taking advantage of the improved grids, etc. Then you should be able to drive by the modified World. So far so good, yes? Now, if you want to have the new content and drive it with the improved physics and other goodies, you will have to buy TEE. Then the missing link here is how easy will be to "transport" the newly created World of WBE into TEE so you can drive it? Another point from our consumer perspective is price: We buy WBE now at about $30. Later when TEE comes we pay another $30 ? I just want to clarify: $60 for the whole package is up in the threshold of what most would pay for all (don't misunderstand this: I think is worth every penny, but local economies are not in the best shape nowadays). Perhaps Auran could offer a price break on TEE to anyone that pre-orders WBE or something, to make people happy. I just want a note from Tony confirming, clarifying or correcting what I have said.

Yes you get a discount (20%) on the TEE when you pre-order WBE, look at the wording in the pre-order page. Also you get discounts (60%) off other Auran products. Hop over to the pre-order page http://www.ts2009.com/news2.php

Tony will confirm all this, and the fact you can use the export/import process I have mentioned.

Not to put too much of a dampener on things, but the wy the economy is going, a LOT of people will be at home looking for something to do ....

Tony[/quote] And pay twice. Back to the K.I.S.S. principle by chance?

I am also confused.I have downloaded the Beta and so far it works fine but CMP will not open.I followed the link in the e-mail to the beta testers forum (since it seems I am not supposed to report such things here) and found an incomprehensible set of instructions about IRCs, Ports and Servers. I am an ordinary guy who sometimes feels PCs are specifically designed by geeks to be confusing, and I simply don't understand this.

Just clearing up something

Thanks Guys for the answers.
I just want to make sure before I do the wrong thing. I can pre-order the production package of WBE now. It is not the beta-version we are talking about. I have seen they say oder or get the beta-version and test it.
Paul, I have visited your website, but it is unfortunately a paysite. There is also a person in South Africa who contacted me on South African trains, but he also runs a paysite. It is a bit difficult for us to afford everything. We depend really hard on the generous people who share their creations with everybody on the download station. As they say, beggars can't be choosers.

Have a Ginormous Trainz weekend.

Leon
:)

my confusion is if we were to get both versions, would it be possible to import all that content from TEE to the WBE? That's what I've been trying to look for with no such luck thus far.

If you have TS2009 (WBE) installed then TEE will install on top. If there is no TS2009 installation then TEE will install as a stand alone version. This is similar to Guild Wars is you are familiar with that game. It's an "expand-alone" - either expansion pack or stand alone.

Tony, can you get someone to put this onto the TS2009 website? As no one has been able to find this bit of info. Or put it into a post in the announcements forum. It's really that one bit (that it will 'upgrade' WBE) that every has been confused about, or asked about :)

And this is the news that I think everyone has been hoping for :)

Alright! Thanks for your reply!

...and found an incomprehensible set of instructions about IRCs, Ports and Servers.

There's a top menu with 3 links on it, the third one is "bugs". Click that and follow the instructions. (However, you will need to add some technical details about the computer you're using)

I am not suprised Leon I was confused at first, you need to read the detail before it becomes clear (as mud?)

I suspect the term "Engineers edition" will be confusing here in the UK as the man sat in the cab is usually called the 'driver'. When I first saw the term I immediately thought it meant it was the version where you 'engineered' (or built) routes. It was only after I studied the detailed description that I understood it meant, what to me is, the drivers edition. The whole idea of having two editions like this seems confusing and somewhat pointless. I cannot see many Trainz veterans interested in an edition without the construction module (surveyor) but since I am not employed by the marketing department what do I know?

To digress a little:

The fatal flaw with the World builders edition (as far as I am concerned) is those thousands of built-in assets most of which I will not want (especially most of the routes). In past versions they have just been clutter slowing everything down and a mighty forest making it difficult to find those trees (assets) I really want due to the chaotic (user) naming system. I do seriously hope that these assets are optional install (on a per route basis?) or a world builders edition without added assets is made available (for download only perhaps).

Right, that's my feelings about compulsory assets made known. I will shut up about it now :)
