Hi I have 2006 and TC3,the problem I am about to outline does not occur in 2006 no problem with 2006 at all.

So we go now to TC3.When I start my computer,I go to TC3 open it up and start to build in surveyor,at this point there are no problems, after about half an hour the board I am working on will start to vibrate, rather like the reaction, you would get with a pneumatic drill. So I close down the computer restart and all is well, half an hour later the problems starts again,so its restart again.

Does any one have any ideas that might help solve this.
Thank you.

Hi,

let's try the quick fixes first!

In your PC desktop, you'll find the display properties.
Check the values and note the refresh frequency (typcially 60 Hz, though I've set mine to 72 Hz)
In Trainz Options, use the advance setting and replace the "Auto" with the value found in the dispaly properties (pull down menu).

Now try that.
I had to change the display refresh (vertical frequency) from 60Hz as the display started to judder - I guess that the 50 Hz (UK) mains frequency causes beats with the 60Hz display. Changing to 72 Hz solved that for me.
Of course, 60Hz is the US mains frequency - hence the default value!

If adjusting those values doesn't help, then start checking the PSU and cooling on your PC - Trs 2009 & 2010 use the graphics card quite hard (much harder that any other application I've used) this continual hard use can cause overheating and shows up any problems with the PSU.

If you're happy opening the PC case, open it & clean out the fluff (disconnect from mains first!) that will help it keep cooler.

Thanks for that Colin I will check those details and clean it tomorrow.

Here is something strange,I did not mention, when working on the board,it is the right click of the mouse that sets it off.I changed the mouse but still the same happens.

So Colin thanks again and to any one with a other ideas keep them coming please. Will start these checks.

Thanks William

Hi Colin went to options in TC3 and advanced setting altered Vertical Sync to Full Rate and Frequency to 72 and the problem seems to have gone away:cool:

But can any one tell me in easy to understand jargon what have I done to cure this.

Thank you Colin

Probably not in too simple terms, but

The monito on your PC has vertical scan - that's how often the screen updats (lets call it top to bottom).
The faster it updates, the less flicker you see.

The monitor has it's own default rate - however, the graphics card in your PC can tell the monitor what to do (That's the setting you can control from the desktop).
The faster you refresh the monitor (higher number of Hz), the harder the graphics card has to work, so the default setting is usually 60 Hz.

When you use Trainz, by default, it will collect the refresh information from the Windows setting (i.e. Auto), so everything should work together.

There's (as always) a snag - US mains frequency is 60 Hz (same as the default settings), and that means that any mains frequency carried into the PC or monito is going to be the same as the refresh rate, so it won't affect the refreshing of the screen.
In the UK, the mains is 50Hz - so any "hum" from the mains is going to upset the exact timing of the refresh (remember that monitor & card are supposed to work together exactly).
For some reason, using 72 Hz seems to avoid the problem - possibly because nothing is trying to lock onto 60Hz or 50Hz...

Trainz does use the graphics hard, so it's unlikely you'll see this effect on other games.

Glad it's sorted
