commissions prices

Would like to know what , or if there is prevailing rate to commission prices and time . For Steam, an older RR content? I would like to have some privet content done, but don't have a clue to what would be a fair price or time line . What would be consider to high, or to low ?

I do understand that certain requests would be a major project, just a guide or starting point is what I'm looking for . Thanks

I'll make an engine for you. As long as it's USA and a big steam engine, I'll do it. Free. I am interested in making an FEF, GS-6/64, GS-5, GS-3, and Anything DM&IR.

Cost depends on what you need made as how much info is there, are planes available, how long the maker thinks it will take and so on. Think in the $50 to $500 range. Check that the one you pick can do the work, see what he/she has made. I do some but only what I like to do.

whitepass Thank you for your re ponce, that was exactly what I was looking for . 50$ to $100 would be on the line I'd be willing to go, but didn't want to be insulting or low baling anyone . And for most USA steam, I'd was afraid that's to low . But for ... let say some older 20th century tank, coal, caboose, and ore cars ? Well I be willing.. As to Diesel ?

Ktrain.ny Thanks for posting. What you offering is fantastic. And I'm looking to have built, a few specific steam of the PRR. If there something you'd be willing to give a go at , fantastic. But I, if not. not a problem

Matt,
As a (free) piece of advise, be sure to first ask if someone can show at least something of their work before even considering asking / commissioning him/her some work. That way you have a smaller chance of getting disappointed in the end.
No offence intended.

oknotsen Thanks for posting. I was just asking for guideline so to speak . And if there was a starting price for specific projects ? Understanding those who have a history and track record of high quality content could, and do set there own prices and timeline. ( As they should ) In keeping this is only a hobby to me, would be liken to buying a new HO, G or O scale car or engine. That I can simply look at different modelers quality and prices .

Matt

Well, im good with making an M1a, if that's what that loco is. No, I haven't made anything, but I'm really trying. Give me a mounth or 2 and I'll start.

Ktain.ny Thank you for the offer, two things you should know. 1. K&L has already made the Pennsy L1. M1a along with four version of the K-4, J1, E6. Which I have all, and highly recommend all of there work, even there none PRR work :hehe: 2. The two engines I posted are the PRR I class 2-10-0 and C class 0-8-0 heavy yard snifter . Both would be a challenge . There is a fantastic NYC 0-8-0 available on the DL already . But I'm PRR .

But the reason I started this, was to find out if there a starting number or price ?

OK, simulatotrain I have a lot of your work . Of the two you'd mention, the N-8 or N-5
caboose would be my starters

Send me a PM . But thought you were part of the JointedRail team. Which I've purchased many items, but wasn't interested in older content commission

Matt

Considerations in determining the price of a commission, in addition to those whitepass mentioned above are exclusivity, and who gets to own the rights to the model. If you want to have the rights to control distribution of the model, you should expect to pay a higher, perhaps a substantially higher, price for the comission. If you are allowing the creator to control the distribution model, so that he can sell copies of the same model to others, or even put it on the DLS, then he may be willing to accept a lower price.

Keep in mind that to my knowledge, N3V has no official policy that sets the price of a commission. If you and a content creator (or team of content creators) agree on a price, that's what the price is.

mjolnir Thanks for posting. That said, some calcification of What I'm looking for . 1. To get content I would like to see in trains by way of commissions. And after made would be available to the community, ether as payware or free on private site . 2. I'm not looking to clam creation of , or control of My commission work . And 3. A price...

I'm sorry if this sounding redundant, but if I was going to by anything else, I'd have a low end. And a high end price to go by. As most payware is going from anywhere from $10 to $50 or more for a route ( most cases ) . Some of which takes anywhere from a month to a year to finish . I'm asking what anyone would consider a fair price for commissions. I have asked creator to no avail to this point, as if the question itself was an insult . Fully knowing what it takes to do highly detail content, and then get that content to work in trainzs. If it is the cases that you don't want to post such a price for fear of being held to it in the future, say so . No harm done . But is $50 to $150 to low ? this being a digital format .

Keeping this a hobby for me and not ever going to made a source of income ( MY FUN ) but also knowing this isn't the case for everyone.

In that case the better question to ask would be "Who wants to join me in a project to commission a new loco, sharing the cost amongst as many people as possible?" Once you know the level of interest you have an idea of how much you have to offer, and you can go looking for the best product available at that price.

SailorDan BTW always good to have a other seamen around:)

LOL yea Here I'm trying to fine out what's considered a fair price to start with . That it's self has been way harder, and more time consuming then I ever thought it could be .
So getting any number of member to agree on a specific engine and price is a good idea . But not if it's not what you really want . But there are already forum posting to that subject, with other collaborating on certain Steam, and Diesel engines

While I'm not against this idea, my interest are first PRR B&O NYC Steam, then early Diesel . And why I like all Steam, I bleed PRR red:hehe:

Food for thought I just brought out my Broadway Limited HO GG1 K4 M1a . getting there route up to run has a know cost factor to it

Thank you all for your suggestion and thoughts, they have helped

Only one correction K&L did the M1b, there is a difference. I would love a prewar M1a or even an M1. Also I love the Broadway limited Pennsy steamers, I still have 2 of the I1's but at the price of things these days virtual is where I am going.

Matt, I'd be willing to pitch in on a commission depending on what was being made and who was making it. You know I'm a PRR Guy :) !!

Thank for that jacksonbarno . Will look in to that , was the S1 a commission ? A S1 would be great . BTW great work yourself

PBY357 send me a pm. would love to team up, PRR awaits

KenRuof Again Thanks for pointing out that typooo :hehe: I guess I'll need to make my apogees to K&L too
As to my Broadway engines, I bring em out to scare the wife. virtual is the only way I'm ever have the layout I always wanted .:hehe: But dam there nice models
