Has anyone bought the route coal country?I purchased it couple weeks ago it it really is one of the best looking routes I've seen in a long time. I've yet to see anything missing or any Easter eggs. I really enjoy it. Just wondering about your thoughts on this great route.

Yes , It's one I wish had come earlier with trains . I have enjoyed running the session that it came with . And my own . Midwest Grain , BN 2 are also routes I'd recommend . But Coal Country is a well put together route .:D

Yes, it is a great route.

Check out the sessions I designed for it.

Search on the DLS with my username: DWBennett55

Hi I went to have a look and CMP says the following are missing...

I spent an extra $10 and bought the route from Jointed Rail so I could modify it to my taste. Lots of good stuff but I changed the track and the trees to start with. Then switched some assets that were poorly colored with no thought for reality. It looks just like the environment we see here about 30 miles East of Pittsburgh PA! Clever use of backdrops. Takes about 30 minutes to run end-to-end but the Shift key can speed that up for session development. The looping and crossovers add a lot of flavor. I only buy routes I can modify and I was fortunate it was available from JR. Also well worth the money are the non-modifiable versions since there are no things that make the route bad. Other payware routes looked quite bad to me but they were locked.

There should definitely be a couple of little scenes for you to find on the route NPR! The deer facing the deer sign for one and the guys on the rollercoaster for another (still not quite sure why I did that) haha. I'm glad you like the route mate and thankyou for your purchase :)

I'm looking at making a couple more sessions if people like the ones that come with the route using rolling stock and free locos from JR (maybe some steam?). If you do make any modifications or extensions to the route I'd love to see them!

Only perk I can maybe see by buying it thru N3V is the option for multiplayer, but being a member of JointedRail its great that people purchase from JR.com to support us and fund more projects.

I agree with those above that say it is a great route. As I stated on another thread, I am spending the vast majority of my Trainz time lately in my tailored version of Coal Country. Even going so far as to tailor a 3rd party model railroad operations software program to support my session play. Great fun, because the size of the route is manageable enough to get pretty in-depth operations set up quickly.

PS: I found the roller coaster; now have to look for the deer.

Check out this thread: https://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?140608-Sessions-for-Coal-Country

It will probably have the answers you're looking for.

Take care,

I have purchased this route and really enjoy it.

I have found one problem that I need some help with. After loading the coal cars and told to proceed to the next segment to load and couple the cars, switch PB1 is locked against me and will not change/allow me to change its position. Message displayed is "Switch is not under manual control"???

Thanks for starting this thread, I've been thinking about purchasing this route. Thanks Boyled for your post, I wouldn't have thought about that. Now when I buy I will buy from JR.

This is my biggest gripe with most payware routes and nonpayware. a lot of the buildings look like well pretty poor to say the least because of their colors............I try to keep all my modified layouts with uniform buildings including their color palettes. I love Coal Country especially from the operational perspective but some of those buildings that are included use colors that take so much more away from the route then add to it because they look out of place. I think that's one of the main reasons I was drawn to EEP 14, Buildings looks so well together they draw you in to the setting and that goes back to versions over 4 years old. But back to Coal Country. Definitely one of my favorite routes for Trainz without a doubt. Well thought out and who doesn't love coal and timber moving on rails ?

As for as "locked" routes go, I was able to build over the Brazemore Yard layout in TMR17 and have a few different versions for download on the DLS that make the route a lot more enjoyable and add operational possibilities that didn't exist prior. Not sure if you can do that with Tane routes or not,

As N3V advances the graphics of TANE the intense colors of the "old days" will become more annoying. Unfortunately there are new assets being produced now that continue the TS2004 intense coloring. One of the most annoying is the asset that uses pure, high reflective white. With an overall nice lighting setting the white is a glaring blotch with no detail. A view from afar makes it stand out - but in a bad way. You can use Environment to modify the overall lighting and you will reveal some very well done detail. But now the other areas of the route look dismal. All the author has to do is use a lower reflectivity and less intense coloring elsewhere to have truly real looking assets. While they are at it perhaps the artists can realize that not every building is repainted on a monthly schedule. Many, many assets look new but they are set in a past era and never looked liked that anyhow since the paint of the time was mush less intense and did not retain colors as well as today. Unfortunately, due to the sensitivity of some authors, and/or their supporters, critical commentary is difficult.

Back to Coal Country. Most of the assets in the route are very well chosen to avoid the faults I mentioned. There is a mine alongside one track( JR Parker Tipple) that is truly outstanding. Somebody spent a lot of time on it.

I recently bought this route when it was on sale at the Trainz Store. I never knew that there would be a difference between the Trainz version and the one on Jointed Rail's site (the ability to modify the route).

This is an absolutely brilliant route (for my tastes). It captures wonderfully the atmosphere I've been looking for in a layout (I am nowhere *near* talented enough to design my own). I love the attention to detail. The overgrown tracks and general "back-country" sort of feel to it. It's a great size too. Not too long as to be boring, but not too short to be over-simplified too. Thank you very much indeed Scratchy for your wonderful work.

When I find a route like this that I enjoy, I like to muck around with the basic layout and make a few tweaks for my own enjoyment and use it as my "go-to" layout. In this case, I'd like to try and add some steam facilities somewhere, try changing some of the trees and tweak some of the sidings etc. I've done some basic stuff as a session but it's very limited as to what or where I can add.

If I had known that the JR version would not be locked, I would have bought it from there.

Is it possible to pay a fee to get it unlocked? Or, if it goes on sale at JR some time, would it be possible to install that version over the top of the one I have?

Again, great route and thanks very much Scratchy.

Cheers,
Piere.

Oh, and p.s. Yes, I would *love" any other sessions you might choose to do for it please. :)

Many thanks Piere! Its good to hear that many seem to enjoy the shorter but more detailed and operation based routes rather that the longer point to point ones - me too!

Before I fork out some dollars on this route for a second time, could anyone please let me know if I will have any issues in trying to install both the JR and N3V versions of this route into the same installation of trainz?

Scratchy?....

Cheers,
Piere.

My apologies scratchy, I didn't notice any PM notifications before. I'll have a look.

Thanks.

Cheers,
Piere.

I love Coal Country. I've been operating it now for about a month or so and I'm really satisfied with it. It basically has set the standard for what I now look for in routes; short, manageable, and engaging. I operate continuous patterns that set up amazing situations. Really immersive. Thanks scratchy.

I bought Fall Harvest last night and because of what I've learned from Coal Country, I now operate only the top section of that route, too. Your inspiration is appreciated once again.

Making my first runs with Coal Country and taking loaded cars up to Peabody to drop off and return to Gilberts for more loads. When I get to Peabody, this is what I see. Any thoughts?

Thanks
