CM can't find Asset on DLS

dricketts

Trainz Luvr since 2004
I'm trying to download some of my own assets after they were deleted from my local machine with all sorts of quirky results. Anyone have any ideas what is going on?

CM is reporting "unknown location"

... but it's on the DLS with 103 downloads

If I try to use the download cart feature I get "content is invalid". None of this makes any sense to me. I've deleted my own content before and replaced it from the DLS many times..

Try "Download Page" ... Download and "Save" the download file to your PC Downloads ... then open that CDP file that is in your PC Downloads, commit it into the CMP.

Does it also come up with the red message at the bottom of Content Manager?

Shane

No it does not.

Thanks. That worked. Now I have my asset back but I'm still curious what was going on.

OK now this is getting more disturbing. Now I've found others content that is on the DLS but CM doesn't find it. If I use the DLS webpage and download cart I get the Content is Invalid again. What does this mean? Nothing has changed on my end that I know of. These items are available on the DLS.

Allegedly the failure to update affects less than 1% of users so fixing it is not a priority. Allegedly.

The recent jam ups on the DLS means that the very small tiny miniscule insignificant number of us who always get problems after a server glitch have to do an EDR or delete assets.tdx and the userdata\cache folder to force the lazy beggar to actually LOOK at the download station.

Holy Freaking Cow! That's a lot of BS that could take a whole weekend. I still don't understand what is causing it. Does this mean I've been missing content available on the DLS every search for weeks or months now?

By the way I'm running TS2010. Is the solution the same for this version?

2010 is the main one I use, the amount of time would depend on how many addons you have - my TS2010 folder is 13.7 gigs and that takes 3 or 4 hours on a solid state drive. Again, best idea is to start just before bed, turn the monitor off and let it run overnight.

Well the EDR is the easy part and I don't have any add ons. It's all the other crap. I'm a little gun shy about deleting stuff. I thought you mentioned there were two options. Do a EDR or all this other stuff. It looks like scottbe8 is suggesting both. Then the part about this process generating a whole luandry list of false faulty content. That's more than a little concerning since I have about 75 gig of content. There is still the question of what caused this and when will it happen again. I've also noticed CM is not recognizing any newer content on the DLS.

1) Exit Trainz completely.
2) Navigate to the UserData folder in the Trainz root directory.
3) Delete assets.tdx and the cache folder.
4) Launch Trainz and click Options in the Launcher.
5) You will have to enter your serial number(s) for all installed packs, including the base game, and your username and password.
6) Click OK.
7) Click Quit. An EDR will immediately initialize.
8) Wait. Depending on your computer's capabilities and the number of assets you have, the database repair could take several hours.
9) When the repair finishes, Trainz will exit. Monitor TADDaemon.exe in Task Manager until it self-terminates.
10) Launch Trainz again and click Content. A small database rebuild may commence. This should not take more than 30 minutes to complete.
11) Click the Faulty filter preset. Select all the assets, right-click, and choose "Show errors and warnings". Wait for the validation process to complete.
12) Close the popup and go down the list, single-clicking each asset to clear the faulty flag, until the interface refreshes and shows either an empty list or a shorter list containing only those assets that are truly faulty.
13) Go to File>Settings and re-enter all your personal settings for Content Manager.

"I don't have any add ons", by addons I mean any downloaded assets that are not built in, 75 gigs would indicate you have a lot. The whole process takes so long to do I only do it when absolutely necessary, so I don't know which would take less time, but you don't have to do both. The problem is there's no "clear cache" button, so to get it to stop loading what's in the cache and actually look at the download station, it has to be forced into a cache rebuild. Two ways to do that, an EDR or deleting the cache files that it's loading the out of date information from. It's always a day or two behind the latest DLS postings, and how the updates are triggered is a closely guarded secret, but if it's not showing assets that have been on the DLS for over a week then it's not updating.

I thought you meant expansion packs or something of the nature by add ons. I guess I'll try an EDR overnight and see what happens.

Thanks
