Cloning Products

Regarding my thread Question about Multiple Industry New , I wanted to try cloning the Coal product as Coal1, Coal2 etc, to help solve a problem. I can make the clones, but they don't appear in the product list of an industry (Multiple Industry New). Can anyone tell me how to make them appear in the list?
Thanks,
Mick Berg.

I just tried it in '06 and Coal1 showed up. Are you using kuid:44179:60013?
Norm
Norm, I made a silly mistake and tried to clone a texture instead of a product! As you say, a clone of 44179:60013 shows up in the list. But we're not done yet. The clone will not load into a vehicle. When I click on Vehicle in the Products tab of M.I.N, the list only contains "none". Any ideas? Do I need to change something in the config file of the clone?
Thanks,
Mick Berg.

Mick, I've done that before, not realizing that Auran coal is a texture. My guess is that you'll have to edit the config file of your coal car to accept the new product. M.I.N. doesn't see any cars that are loadable with your product. I set up a test route, changed slugsmasher's gondola to accept coal01, and M.I.N. loads and unloads the car, no problem.

Thanks for your help, Norm, and I understand what you are saying, but it's all getting out of hand, I think. I'd have to have all these wierd clones of coal cars, etc, edited to work with only one product, which was itself a clone! Just too silly, and beyond my current skill level. I'll keep experimenting with the "Duration" in the M.I.N., I feel that the solution is there somehow.
Thanks,
Mick Berg.

No, you don't need clones of the coal cars, just add your product kuid to the load queue in the config file. How many different types of cars are you using? You'd only edit a couple of config files.

I'm just using one, the BR Freight MCO Grey. So I'd make a clone of it, (so as not to mess up the original) and then add five clones of the coal product (Coal1, Coal2, Coal3, etc) to the load queue in the config file? And then at my coal receiving depots, I'd only unload for example Coal1, right?
Mick Berg.

Yep, you should clone this car because it's built-in, and you don't want to open for edit built-in content if you're using '06. The part to add would be:
load-coal1 {
size 19400
initial-count 0
product-kuid <kuid:132903:100035>
animated-mesh "coal"
}
load-coal2 {
.
.
.
etc

Easy fix

You don't need to touch the configure file at all. In survayor after you add the car, click on the question mark. Then click on the car. This allows you to add products that the car can carry during the session.:)

SW1500, you're absolutely correct. Thanks for the tip. But it only works on a per-session basis, right? Editing the config file makes it permanent. That's why I made a clone.

Norm, I set everything up as I thought it should be, and it doesn't work at all. TRS doesn't seem to differentiate between the different Coals, and the session behaves basically randomly. If I packaged it up into a route and session, would you be interested in taking a look?
Thanks,

Hi,

TRS will load whatever load is available to be loaded into a wagon, so if you have more then one coal load in the config.txt file then TRS will load either one it has 'stock' of.

Bit confusing, but anyway, you may have to do something like I have done previously to the builtin oil wagon, I got tired of the wagon either filling with Diesel or Petrol or Aviation Fuel at the refinery if I didn't get around an set the commodities. So I cloned the wagon, removed all the other products except for the Diesel, then cloned again and did the same thing except this time I removed all except for the Aviation Fuel. Repeated for Petrol also.

So, clone the wagon you want to use, then just change the product-kuid <kuid:132903:100035> line to the KUID of your cloned coal. Remove all the other loads and just have the one load. This way the wagon will only use one product, the product you tell it too.

Hope that makes sense... :)

Thanks for that advice. It all seems so complicated! What's annoying is that I can achieve what I want very simply, no clones or editing needed, except that it will only work once in a session. I wish there was a way to "reset" the M.I.N.'s.
Thanks,
Mick Berg.

Yes it can be complicated, getting everything running just the way you want... :)

Remember also, you can remove/delete products from wagons, after you place the wagon you want to use in Surveyor, bring up the properties window, you can click on the black X near a product. This will remove/delete the product from the load queue for the session, place another wagon and repeat the process for every wagon you use to load a certain product.

It is not a permanent change, it will not effect the wagon for any other sessions you create or do.

Hope this helps a little more... :)

So, what I have to do is;
Make 5 clones of the wagon.
Make 5 clones of the coal product.
Remove all products except one from each wagon, so I have;
Wagon1 accepts only Coal1, Wagon2 accepts only Coal2, etc.
Then set up the five receiving MIN's to accept only one of the products, eg Coal1.
I'll try this before sending my test route to Norm (and anyone else who wants to see it.:hehe:) I'll do this after I've finished designing my hybrid space shuttle and perpetual motion machine, they will be easier!
Thanks,
Mick Berg.

Mick,
If you do send it to me, make sure you include an instruction manual. I've lost track of the original intent.:D

No, not quite... :)

If everything is working correctly, you should not have to clone the wagons. You could make 5 clones of the Coal product, then in Surveyor, place the wagon you want to use, open the properties, click on the black plus (+) near the product icon to add another. Once all the products load, find your product in the list (more then likely it will be listed right down the bottom of the list), select it in the list and click on the green tick.

You should have 2 coal products the wagon can load, your Coal1 (for example) and the original Coal. Now select the original Coal load and click on the black X, this will remove the product from the wagon so only 1 product remains, yours.

This is a session change, not permanent change, if you upload to the DLS or send to someone else you will have to include your cloned Coal products.

Hope that helps and makes sense... :)

I wouldn't upload this to the DLS, its very scruffily done as a test exercise. I'd make a cmpa file that I would send individually.
But here's a new wrinkle. The route consists of four simple circular tracks, each with a producing MIN and five receiving MIN's, and a five-wagon coal train chugging round each one. I've used Queue 1 in each one of them. As they are all part of the same route, are they all interacting with each other in terms of load size, etc? Should I have used a different queue for each one?
Thanks,
Mick Berg.
