Classics 3 "Jerky"

I've just received my Classics 3 and its very slow to load and the graphics are very jerky. My computer is a P4 3.0Ghz chip running under XP sp3. My graphics card is an Albatron PC6600U 128mb PCI express and I have 1.5gb ram. Classics 1&2 also run like this but I was disappointed with them from the start and rarely use them. Trainz 2006 runs perfectly.

What do I need to get Classics 3 running smoothly? The box says the card should support Vertex and Pixel Shade. My current card specs doesn't mention either of those two things, although it does say it has Nvidia Ultrashadow II.

Thanks,
Ken G.

Your slight lack of RAM coupled with a low-RAM video card is probably the problem. Look into getting some more RAM (memory). It is the cheapest way of improving computer performance. If you have the cash, then a graphics card with more RAM (at lease 256MB) may help as well.

EDIT: TC3 is a lot more resource hungry than TRS2006, so that is why there is a difference.

Hi Ken,

Some of the scenery in TC3 is very detailed - I've noticed that Appelby is very bad for jerkiness.
Once into the open country the situation improves dramatically.

I found that I've set the sliders to reduce the detail - this helps.

The other thing I've found helps is overclocking the CPU (about 17% for my PC).
I have an Athlon 3000+ normal clock is 1800 MHz, overclocked to 2100 MHz really helps - the Graphics card is nVidia 6600 GT with 128 Mb internal memory - overclocking this doesn't make a difference.

Mind you - I have to be careful about the CPU cooling - the temperature can increase by 10 - 15 C.

I think the route builders were enthusiastic in the detail level!

Colin

I overclocked my graphics card, found this keeps it well in control heat wise. :D
