Building the Wisbech line
Have you come across any railway photos related to your local town or area? Post your photos on this thread. Here's one I found myself to get the ball rolling.. a British Rail Class 08 in charge of a special rail tour passenger train awaiting departure from my home town's now long-vanished (and now built over with a factory car park) 'East' Goods Yard - (29th September 1979)

Rondout, IL in the 1950s. The photographers are standing on the right-of-way of the CNS&M interurban line, and the tracks crossing the Milwaukee Road belong to the EJ&E.

This crossing was well-known for its rule that the Hiawathas had to "slow down" to 100mph. The water tower went in the late 1950s, and the station went in the early 1960s, but the interlocking tower is still standing as of 2013.

My home town was served by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway and a short line railroad which made connection with the Virginian Railway at a point about 6 miles from town.

Neat idea for a thread!

We had a branch originally built as part of the South Penn RR, completed by the Cumberland Valley, folded into the PRR in 1919, becoming PC and eventually torn up by Conrail in 81-82. Before it was torn up, there was a shortline operator for a few years, seen here:

Their ALCo locomotives are seen at 3 of the 4 stations on the branch, all of which survive today (shown in the small images). I haven't been able to pinpoint the location of the fourth station, seen here in CVRR days:
