Class 222 Hull Trains problem

Thanks Shane

That's what I've just been doing but I have used copy then paste without sucess.

Will have another go using the drag

Paul

Yes Shane that seems to have done it

Don't understand difference between having an administrator account and running as.....

Many thanks

Paul

Hi Shane

Had to go out immediately after last post so didn't follow through.

Although the drag seemed to work - confirmation of replace and the UAC messages - I've now come back to find that the assets are still shown in red and can't be placed.

The assets are shown in content manager with just warnings (error symbol gone) and a check on the config file shows the corrected text.

I've tried an EDR with no effect.

Deleting the assets and re-downloading reverts them to the original wrong text.

Hoping you can help

Paul

If you are using TS12 build 58414 (SP1 + hotfixes) this will show yellow warnings, If you view the errors and warnings you will see that one of them is because the build of the assets is 2.4. The other 2 warnings are because two of the image files are uniform colour.

None of these 3 warnings on all 6 assets will prevent them from being used and can be ignored because they are yellow exclamation mark warnings and not red exclamation mark errors. Only red errors in Content Manager will prevent them being used.

Yes - they show an orange jigsaw piece symbol and exclamation mark

3 warning triangles are as Scottish has just stated in his post

Paul

Now you are telling us for the first time that they are showing a yellow jigsaw symbol. This means that you are missing a dependancy.

Open the 'view dependancies' and this will show which are missing or broken.

Scottish

Sorry - didn't appreciate the significance

Faulty dependency is a nameplate and furthermore I find it in content as faulty with a similar message about the filename being wrong. When I look in the config file, the actual file is named xxx-copy.

I presume I have to change this in config as well.

Paul

As I said before, the path and filename in the config file must match the actual location and filename supplied in the asset folders and files. Otherwise the file cannot be found. You can either change the config file or rename the file, but they must match.

This rule applies to any asset you are fixing, not just these 222 ones

Scottish

appreciate that - the knowhow comes in knowing what to look for.

Now I've found there's yet another fault with this asset I can probably sort it out for myself.

Not only is this asset out of date but has numerous faults

Not sure I'm going to use it

Paul

I have not found many faults with these East Midlands 222's apart from a couple of typo's in the main asset and perhaps a dependancy. Also the Vehicle/Locomotive script thing. It does not matter that it is an earlier build number and, as I said, forget about the yellow exclamation mark warnings.

I did a reskin of this one in Cross Country class 220 Voyager livery in build 2.9 which is on the DLS which therefore has no warnings in TS12. It uses the original dependancies so they need to be error free.

This is my first attempt to download a train vehicle and if this is considered to be "not many faults" then maybe I'm not going to be enjoying Trainz as much as I thought. Well, 2nd - the first was the Hull 222.

It's one thing after another - I changed the Nameplate texture file to "222021-222021.texture - copy" because that's the name shown in the asset folder (spaces front/behind the hyphen) and what did I get? yet another error stating the file must have an image file extension - whatever that is - I see no sign of it in the config file.

So I've ditched it - for now at least - I quite enjoy sorting things out within reason but this has got beyond a joke and I'm not inclined to keep asking for help when it seems I'm not giving you relevant information.

If I read you right, your Voyager is not going to be much good to me if I can't do anything with the nameplate dependency.

I've been quite happily doing some scenery before going to bed. Maybe try downloading something else tomorrow - it might even run.

...maybe I'm not going to be enjoying Trainz as much as I thought...

Don't get despondent about Trainz Paul, I think you have just been unlucky in downloading an asset with so many faults at your first attempt and you have done well to get as far as you have with the 222 :Y:.

I would suggest that, for the moment, if you download an asset that shows errors that you don't understand just delete it and look for an alternative, but if it's a "must have" then of course post here and we will do our best to help. There is currently a repair process for faulty items (which tend to be older ones from a time when Trainz assets upload validation was less strict) this is progressing but only slowly. There are also tools (created by "PEV" and "Andi06") that you can use for repairing assets.

Despite what some people may say there are not that many Trainz assets with "show stopping" faults.

Cheers

Chris

Don't give up, you are nearly there. Like anything else in life, its just about a learning process which at the beginning is confusing when you are trying to understand the terminology used in the error messages. For example "the file must have an image file extension" is just a way of saying that the file name should have .tga or .bmp or .jpg wording at the end.

Scottish

So - despite the cardinal rule we all understand, that the search name has to be exactly the same as the target name, and the name in the asset folder is "222021-222021.texture - copy", I cannot have "- copy" at the end and I have to add a suffix of either .tga or .bmp or jpg (which?) despite there being no clue or any such suffix in the text or other file names in the config file?!

I bought this as a game not a course in computer studies.

After messing around all day yesterday with this then unless someone wants to tell me precisely what to rename tag 20, I am kicking the EM222 into touch.

I do not want to rename the asset folder because I feel this will lead to another problem.

On a more positive note, I have just downloaded the East Midlands 158 set with no problems and seems to be working OK so hopefully I have just picked a bad-un as itareus says.

The Hull 222 set is working OK after the changes to the script so not all bad.

Thanks everyone
Paul

I think you may be right. .texture is a valid image file extension where Trainz is concerned though, just not the -copy part at the end.
