QE2 and the Queen Mary 2 featured in Cityrail 2007/2008

With the historic visit by both the QE2 and Queen Mary 2 last month to Sydney, I have decided to add these 2 ships to Sydney Harbour to commemorate their visit. As a result of this, I am working hard on these models in my spare time.

I have collected a number of pictures taken of their visit, and am pretty excited about adding night textures to both these models as they will look spectacular at night.

The Queen Mary 2 will be seen in the middle of the harbour as this ship was too large to dock at Circular Quay...... while the QE2 will be docked at the Overseas passenger terminal as shown in the 2nd picture.

I will show screenshots of the finished ships here once they have been completed.

Hi Ish,

The plans at this stage are that I will be doing 2 versions of the Queen Mary 2. One will end up on the DLS "for the taken" while the 2nd version will be released with Cityrail 2007/2008 and will have extended features. After all, I need to keep some ammo to make my layout appealing when it is released.

I will also do the same for my models of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Tangara and a couple of other models people have requested me to share.

This is a test shot of the QE2 in the Ciktyrail 2007/2008 project. This is only the beta version so there are a number of issues to be looked at, plus adding the features that make the QE2 the graceful ship it is. The red and black funnel is being worked on and will be added to the ship tomorrow.

Also looking at the height of the model, the QE2 is sitting too low, and it's height needs to be increased to 52.3 metres.

But for it's first appearance, I am quite happy with this result.

Roy,

Watching this thread with interest. Great work. This is a layout that any Sydneysider would need.

Regards,
Warren.

I am adding an updated shot of the QE2. The last picture of the ship looked really strange with the height problem. I also found one of the tugs floating in the middle of the air, making the QE2 look much smaller in comparison to the tugs.

This model still has a way to go before it is finished but it is a starting point for me to begin moulding with.

This looks like an early foggy morning in Sydney, great effect :p

Congratulations on the QE2 Roy, you seem to take on some of the most "nearly" impossible creations to make.

I know this is supposed to be a forum showing screen shots of trains, but I couldn't resist throwing in this shot of the QE2.

Of course this is prior to textures being added to the QE2 but you get the general idea of what it will look like in the project. Oh... and if you think the bridge is missing something, the bridge pylons on each end have being removed for painting night textures.

Hi Roy

How long have you made it ...?

Why I ask?
I've created an item that is specifically for liners, and I can alwasy go back into gmax to expand on it ... In otherwords, would make the necessary changes so it could dock, hint hint ... :)

Hi Ish,

Sorry about not getting back to you sooner. I have matched the model with the QE2's actual size which is the following:

Length : 293.5 metres
Height : 52.2 metres
Width : 32.07 metres

This additional picture shows a newer shot of the model as I start to add textures to the model.

Cheers

Roy

Hello,

WOW ... most impressive!!!! That's a piece of gold you got there ... When it's available here is where it goes:

On the screen shot is an item I created .... it's only for Cruise ships, but will expand on the item so peeps can expand and make it wider ... With that said, your beautiful ship will have a place to dock, pick up passengers, and supplies ...

Hi Ish,

Great work there. Looks like you have put a lot of effort into this work. I am sure a lot of people out there will be waiting for you to release this little gem.

Will let you know via my blog when the first version of the QE2 will be added to the DLS. This will not be a final version as I will be using an enhanced version for my project when it is released. Hopefully by that time I will have sourced some better pictures of the ship at night time to come up with some decent night textures for the model.
