Church choir question

This may be one of the weirder questions asked on these forums. I bought TS2010 (build 42203) in January and imported a fairly complex route from TC1&2. In certain places, when I zoom in, I will hear what seems to be a church choir singing a hymn. Yet there is no church nearby. I know some churches come with sounds (bells). Some of the areas where I hear it were developed when the route was in TC1&2, and never heard it then.

Thinking I accidentally placed a sound object, I did a content filter search on "sound" and didn't find anything close to a church choir. So the sound must be attached to some building or other asset I placed, but what? My plan of attack will be to place a push pin object every time I come across it and then see what content those locations have in common.

Anyone else come across this?

One thing you might try is to view the route in Surveyor, select wireframe (or press F9) to clear most scenery. Sound point locations are often 1-3 square meter planes located a meter or so below the base terrain level. If you find one, click the objects tab (or press F3) then select get object (or press G). Left click to see the name of the object. If you have the tag -showkuids in your Trainzobjects.txt file you'll also see the kuid number of the object. If you want to get rid of it select get rid of object icon and click it.

re tafweb's Baptist Church

I have used it on my route and it was not in TC1&2, but is built in TS2010, so that explains why it's new to my route in TS2010. Yet when I place it in isolation I cannot hear it in the immediate vicinity, but there might be an explanation such that some issue in build 42203 is causing it to be heard some distance away. Anyway it's not a problem just something that puzzled me.

Thanks for both of your replies.

Confirmed my suspicion re tafweb's Baptist Church

Earlier today I added a small village to my route and placed tafweb's Baptist Church - no choir sound. Later, I just happened to be moving over the nearby countryside in surveyor at a fairly low distance from the ground(absolutely nothing nearby except rolling grasslands) when I heard the choir. I placed a pushpin where it was loudest and then using the ruler, measured the distance from the pushpin to the church, and it was slightly over 1/2 km!

Deleted the church, went back to the pushpin, no choir sound. Added the church, sound appears at the pushpin. But it get wierder: I exited Trainz, reloaded the same route/session, went back to the pushpin, and now, no sound there. This explains why when I came across this problem at another location, I could not find the sound at the same location the next day. Apparently the location varies when you quit and restart Trainz.

If others hear the sound at the building as you would expect, then there must be some glitch between TS2010 build 42203 and the church, since all my other building-related sounds are heard at the building location.

Perhaps one other possibility...

that you haven't considered:

Euphod - your explanation makes sense to me

Who knew that there was such a thing as a ventriloquist choir?

Got to give them credit to be able to throw their voices 500 meters away.

That sound of a heavenly choir is The Rapture coming to get you. The reason you hear it sometimes then it goes away and nothing happens is because it's a bunch of religious BS.

But seriously, if you look in the 'soundscript' section of the config file for the church, you might see what settings Tafweb used for repeat timing and trigger distance of the choir. That might explain your observations in less mystical terms. The soundscript container looks typically like this;

soundscript
{
daysingle
{
repeat-delay 0,30
distance 3,150
sound
{
ventriloquist_choir.wav
}
}
}

..where repeat-delay is the time (in seconds) between the end of the sound playing, and playing it again. The sound file is played at randomised times between the minimum and maximum. Distance is 2 numbers (in metres) the first being the distance at which the sound is played at 100% volume and the second number is the cut-off distance. There can be other variables set too, such as a time of day when to play the sound.

I used to get the same similar thing in Trainz 2010, except it was the noise of people talking on a railway station, I'd be in the middle of the countryside, but I would hear the passengers on a station about half a mile away chatting.

I replaced the chatting passenger sound to a sound of silence, that done the trick, no passenger noise anywhere.

I have also noticed the yellow sound files in Trainz 2010 make sounds in surveyor, but are silent in driver, just wondering has anyone else noticed this.?.

Hope this helps

There are so many sound issues with TS10. Two that come to mind include locos idling in the shed that can be heard miles away and a flock of sheep - ditto! The other issue is locos going 'silent' at certain angles or their sound just fading away as they're running. Meanwhile, though, you can still hear those engines idling in the shed in the background!
