so I've followed the steps in order to change my download directory, ive changed the local data folder but when i go to download something new it STILL says the original download directory..

have i done something wrong or not done something i should have?

Your download directory is where your browser dumps your downloads from the browser. Change it in settings in your browser.

Your local data folder is set in trainz and is where trainz dumps stuff to use later.

So the process is download to your download directory then import content files in content manager, this will add the downloaded content to your trainz database which is held in your local data folder.

If you download using content manager from the DLS then the content goes directly to the trainz database.

so how do I change the actual download directory?

i might need step by step screenshots as well.

When downloading from a website, it will go to the downloads folder. You need to open the Trainz launch screen and select import either content files (if CDP) or a folder. You can't download into Trainz directly from third-party websites.

when i download trainz assets i drag the downloads from my downloads into the content manager page.

I don't use Chrome, but just for grins, does your Windows operating system show a Downloads folder on your computer? if it is there, are the files you recently downloaded from websites in that folder?
If not, you'll have to get Chrome to tell you where it is putting downloads. Maybe ctrl-j in Chrome will do that.

You can't download directly from a 3rd party website into Trainz.
You have to download the CPD file from a website to a folder on your computer. Trainz does not care where that folder is located.
Then run the Trainz launcher. Select the Manage Content button. When the content manager is running, you should be able to drag the icon of a file you downloaded to content manager's open window and drop it. That should install the file, but I've never done it that way. It sounds like you have.

So what went wrong? Why did that work for you before, but not now? Did you tell Chrome to put downloads in a folder you can't find?

While I don't use Chrome, I do know that your browser settings for your downloads folder is found in your settings.

Open up the settings and look for downloads. You can then choose another location where your downloads will go.
