Can My Laptop Use TS2009?

Glenethson

Some Might Say
Today I installed TS2009 on my Toshiba Satellite L300D-18D laptop on vista. In just a few hours of use it has crashed once and I had a fatal error once.
I had the same problem on TRS2006.

I'd post my specs if I knew what they were.

Trainz diag is a sucess.

Do I need to update someing on my laptop to get TS2009 to work normally?
I heard that fatal errors are caused by hardware problems which is what led me to believe this.

TS2009 is a great game so I am eagar to get it working to its full capeabilities.

You should be able to find your specs from the manufacturer site, or from where you purchased it, or simply type in something like L300D-18D+specifications in Google

Had you installed all games with your anti-virus turned off. Take computer offline by pulling cable out or turning off modem first for security.

Did you right-click and 'Run As Adminisrator' the setup programs?
Do you 'Run as adminstrator' each program?
When installing the SP for 2006, DONT run 06 first.
So the steps are: Install 06, and immediatly install sp1.

Try turning down your sliders which will help frame rates as needed.
Swtich between OpenGL and DirectX and see which gives you a smoother ride and perhap will not cause a system crash.

One thing that never hurts is to make sure you have the latest video drivers installed.

Hope some of this helps,
Lenny

Belarc Advisor is useful free utility which will give you a full hardware and software report for your computer. If you use it, please don't post the entire report here, just the relevant bits, roughly speaking the same as TrainzDiag checks. There are other similar utilities available.

There is a good reason why, you have an intel graphics media accelerator (you didn't post any specs, so I had to 'Google' the model and even then), I am not sure which one, but an X3100 by any chance? The price was a dead giveaway. At the moment, there isn't really a fix, as my eeePC 901 is in the same boat. (The only laptopp I carry 24/7, which runs TC3, but not TRS2009).

You really neeed a nVidia or ATI graphics chip really, but it makes the laptop more expensive, worst still, you cannot upgrade your laptops one, so you are stuck with the errors. The only work around I had, is that on mine, which is a GMA950, I used Open GL mode. The trouble is, I get such a massive decrease in performance.
If you do get it working though and it may need a lot of fiddling, I'd be intersted to know, unless I carry the 20.1" laptop with me everywhere as well. Not the best idea when it weighs 8kgs

Thanks for the advice, and here are my specifications that I think will help:

Also be aware that Toshiba uses their own set of drivers which Trainz may balk at. I never could get my Toshiba to install '06, wouldn't read the DVD, but on my others it worked fine.

Thanks Norm but I'm still no closer to solving this problem.

You will need to install a version of vista 64bit, and that in itself will prove to be a challenge, as Toshiba seem to have some of there own unique drivers.
