Can I get a quick opinion of TrainZ versions

I am interested in running as a model type railroad. I want to get a version on my Christmas wish list for my wife, but I want one that can do what I would like as far as Model railroad operations. So in your opinion which of the Trainz versions would suite that type of operation.

Thanks in advance.

First thing i would do is post your computer specs then you'll get a better idea of which version to wish for.
From 2004 upwards they're fine but start to need more comp resources, better graphics cards, cpu's etc.
when/if you do get one your wife will wonder where you are because she wont see much of you. Yes it's that good.

My specs

I apologize. I should have posted that before.

Acer Aspire E380

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+, 2310 MHz
2 Gigs of ram
Video Adapter BFG NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT (Best that I could afford at the time)

600 Gig hard drive (drive K) as well as two smaller drives Primary partitioned into two halves making four hard drive partitions..
Latest DirectX is usually installed.
OpenGL support and Physics supported by the video card.

I currently have not come across an application that I am unable to run, but have not bought many lately.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my query.

Looks like it should run TS2010 OK. Might be worth putting some more memory in though... What OS are you using?

My operating system is Vista, logging in with the Administrator password only as needed to make changes.

I am glad that 2010 does what I need. With the way they started labeling the products I was not sure it still supported Model train layout operation.

Thanks again.

What part of model train options in particular are the ones you are afraid you will lose in a "real railroad" simulator?

TS10 still has the option of constructing a railroad in different scales (haven't really tried that, so I am not sure what the difference would be), and it also still has the DCC control option (turn knob right for forward, left for reverse).

I would also go for TS10, of the ones I have (original trainz, TS09 and TS10), I find that the best one.

Thanks for confirming. That is the one I wanted really and it is at a decent price point. Also looks like there is a lot of content available for use with it so it is my Christmas wish list highlight item.

Thanks for everyone taking the time to share what you know about Trainz with me.

Don

If you are going to model operations, 200010 is the only choice.

whoops, I mean 2010.

And by that date Auran should have perfected it, so that it doesn't require multiple SP's in just several months time from its release ... next Service Patch- 4,987,878
