Can I copy a layer from one version of a layout into another version?

I'm playing around with one of the routes packaged with TRS22PE. So far I've only added a few things so I created a new layer and added them to that. If there are future updates to the packaged route, is there a way to copy my layer from the clone I just made into a clone of the future updated route?

Unfortunately, you can't do that. It would be nice.

You also can't copy an area on a DLC route and save it as a Scrapbook item and use that on a new route.
