It's a pity this thread has veered off into a discussion of the relative worth of TS2010 over previous versions. Personally I'm quite prepared to accept the proposition that '10 is the best version ever, it may well be, but that's not the point of this thread.
It was supposed to be an appeal for the right to continue making and uploading assets for 'heritage' versions of Trainz to the DLS after September. That and possibly some better assurance that uploaded assets won't get deleted.
If someone could be a little more innovative about how those things might be achieved while still allowing TS2010 to prosper on its own merits (instead of artificially killing off its internal competition), then a lot of fans would be happy.
Creators have made huge efforts to first learn how to use some very arcane bits of 3D software (eg. gmax) to make assets, then to follow Auran's ever-changing standards. And in a co-operative spirit, we uploaded our precious babies to the DLS to make them available to everyone in the most accessible, game-friendly and cheap way possible. We did this in good faith, assuming that the DLS was meant to be a central safe haven for the assets regardless of how popular/unpopular they were as downloads or whatever Auran did with future versions.
Now to find that the rug is being pulled out from under us because Auran don't have the technical wit to properly manage the changes they themselves introduced (well that's my summary of Zec's explanation), that's a real kick in the guts, even if it is quite legal. That's how it's made me feel anyway.
No matter which way it goes in the future, it will be hard to forget how badly Auran has handled this matter technically and in terms of its public attitude.
