Campaign to retain full DLS for TRS2004/06

I've tried TRS2009 WBE, and it was terrible. I have TRS2010, haven't tried it because my computer isn't powerful enough to run the programs I have at the moment (laptops aren't built for simulators). Trainz 2006 works perfectly. It doesn't have frame rate guzzling content, but can still run detailed content.

Quite a large fraction of members here are TRS2006 users.
I think I would rather go down with TRS2006 then keep updating to the newest Trainz version.

Once again, I agree. I've bought four different versions of Trainz in the past, along with FCT and feel I've done my part to keep Auran floating.
I'll buy a newer version of Trainz in the future once I have an upgraded computer, which is currently unaffordable. 2004 and 2006 are what originally brought the community together, so is it too much to ask that there's a central location to host content files?

Paul,
Please don't cut and paste to alter the context of what people are trying to say. I find it offensive.
There's the possibility of a win-win for all here. Don't wreck it.

I had a look back at those messages and don't find any of the quotes out of context. Quoting the whole message would be redundant and wouldn't fit within the message limits anyway. As for the paraphrased summary, touché.

Others might find
... complacent little lambs here ...
offensive. Usually it's the lambs that are going to be slaughtered, they are not doing the watching unless they have mirrors in the slaughterhouse these days. :(

I'm not sure why the TS09/10 users are looking down their noses at we 04/06 users. I've purchased 09 and 10, but both are slide shows on my machine. I'm not in a situation at the moment that I can invest in the newest gaming computers that'll be outdated before I can get Trainz loaded onto it. TRS2004 runs fine on my machine and I'm sure that I'm not alone in this situation.

I have
purchased TRS2004
purchased TRS2006
purchased TS2009
purchased TS2010
purchased FCT
purchased Content Creation Art Source
created over 500 items for the DLS
Updated about 300 TRS2004 items to TS2009

How in the world have I not supported Auran? How about a consideration in return?

Mike

How the heck is that not supporting Auran. What do they do with the money? The DLS doesn't get fixed, they can't afford to keep TRS2004 and TRS2006 on the DLS. The new simulators are frame rate munching buggers.

well, duh, games have always demanded hight spec computers. When has this been any different? I remember well how my home computer was always more powerful than anything I ever had at the office. Normal office apps have never needed the power that even moderate games have required. Not talking about high end CAD machines etc., just the run of the mill office work.

So is anyone seriously suggesting that Auran reduce their specs until most people have better machines? I don't think business works that way. They have to compete against other sims that are also high-end. They either meet or surpass them or they may as well fold up their tents and go home.

It would be like crying to the casino that you don't have enough to make an opening bit at the poker table. Try it some day and see how far that gets you.

So stay with the older versions if you want, just don't go saying the new version is crap or worse just because you can't use it. I don't look down at '04, that was then, this is now. :)

I can say that TRS2009 is bad, because i've tried it.

......just don't go saying the new version is crap or worse just because you can't use it.... :)

I never said that the new versions were crap. I just don't prefer them because of the frame rates. My machine is powerful enough to run one of the most demanding Cadd programs out there, so it should surely be powerful enough to run a game.

And yes, I realize that Auran is in the business to make money and I hope they make lots of it. My point is that I have supported Auran with my money and my talents. To just be dumped off to the side by Auran because I prefer to create in 04 just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. We can talk economics all day long, but casting a potential customer off to the side appears to be financial suicide to me.

I respect your opinion. I just don't happen to agree with it.

well said.

As for me. I tried TRS2010, and was greatly dissapointed. I'll stay with TRS2006 until they come up with a version of tainz better than TRS2006.

Well, I have purchased the following versions of Trainz:

TRS 2006 ( 5 copies )
TC-1
TC-2
TC-3
TR 2009 ( 2 copies )

I was going to purchase a new FCT and 2010, but I didn't like way they stopped the voucher usage early for those of us in the US. I came home from out of town, only to find that I was too late.

To cut off those of us who have supported Auran for such a long time is just plain wrong.

With the content that I have downloaded and backed up, I'm set to run what I have, for a very long time.

Odd, I seem to get better frame rates (on native mode at least) than all other editions of Trainz. Actually, my frame rate is nearly double what old versions seem to give me.

Further to the frame rate issues...

Out of interest I made two extractions of a route from Transdem - one into TRS2006, the other into TS2010. After doing a similar amount of work on each and one background process running (an IE7 window open on a mapping site) TRS2006 was running at > 80 FPS, TS2010 at < 10 FPS. Trying to lay any sort of track or splined platform etc. in TS2010 reduced it to a slideshow. TS2010 has AA switched off, draw distance down to 1500m. TRS2006 running at full detail and draw distance out to 4500m courtesy of Trainz Tuner. Only one more thing to test is whether TS2010 might run slightly better in compatability mode rather than native, but I doubt whether there will be enough difference to make it a viable development platform.

With the washing machine on the fritz and various other bills, I can't afford the £800 or whatever for a new laptop that *might* run TS2010 better. So it's either develop in TRS2006 or do Auran/NeverFail want to chase me back to RailFail which also works perfectly well on the same laptop.

TRS2006 is the biggest selling version of Trainz and was the standard full version right up to the end of 2008. Please have some regard for your customers and continue full support, at least for another couple of years until end user hardware can catch up to whatever it is you've done with TS2010 that demands a Cray powered by the Hadron Collider to run it on...

So where does one start?

Situation 1: I have an older computer so previous versions of Trainz seem to operate better for my expectations.

Situation 2: I have the latest computer and everything is great.

Situation 3: I just like to cause problems regardless of the end result.

Situation 4: I like to repeat things that have been said many times before.

Situation 5: I am new to Trainz and I would like objective and constructive suggestions to help me enjoy Trainz.

Which one are you and that is the generic you, not pointed at anyone specifically.

Cheers :)

AJ

EDIT: From Mezzoprezzo and a great sixth situation. :)

6. I love this game and want to help with a solution that will help everyone.

AJ,

Great bit of moderating if I may say so!

Your list is not exhaustive unfortunatety. That could be a big flood gate you've opened.

I'll add one more.

Heres another one:

7. I'm happy with the best version of Trainz, TRS2006 and prefer to use it instead of the new frame rate munching buggers.. opps I mean Trainz 2009 and '10.
