Sadly these little critters have gone the way of the Model T in on most railroads, or have been made into MOW generator cars, or pusher cars for crew.

They're what the British would call 'TARDIS-Like'.

I don't think we have any pictures of this one anymore - our laptop had most of the pictures my family has ever taken and it died because too many - but I've been to this IC caboose in Rantoul, IL. I haven't been there in years so I don't know of its disposition, but if it's still there... needs to be restored.

It's sad though once the vandals get a hold them. There was one parked up on an abandoned branch in Lawrence MA , which used to run along Canal Street. Someone purchased the caboose when the B&M or Guilford was disposing of them in the 1980s. and it sat in front of a business for years until the brats (used in place of what should be here) torched it. A quick check of Bing Maps shows that it's long gone, and probably hauled off for scrap. This was one of the many steel-sided cabeese that B&M owned and similar to those found on many northeastern railroads including the MEC, NH, and others.

GECX 120239 bringing up the rear of CSX W 999-07. Taken last month on the north end of the CSX Cayce Yard in SC.

Emert International on the rear of CSX W 999-17 at the North end of the Cayce Yard in SC. This is reverse move from Belfort France to GE Greenville SC.
I tracked the move all the way from France. Then a close of mine was the engineer and another friend unloaded the GE 9Ha tubrine.

Yea, BNSF Seems to be trying to re-instate Cabeese for Shortline duty in alot of places. Seattle is the home of at least one of the "Heritage Cabeese". The GN Heritage Boose works out of Interbay and does the NB and SB Locals out of Seattle pretty much Daily. I think the reason is to give who ever gets stuck doing Switch Duty a warm dry place to sit during the ride between cuts, and so they don't have to walk all the way back up to the cab when they're equipped with Radio Control anyway......

A little farther to the right of this shot is the Car Maintence Shed at Interbay, and on the far side of it from the guy taking the pic is a track where they tend to keep 3-5 Wide Visions, presumably for back up. They also recently stationed 2 Wide Visions up in Everett. I don't know about the usage of any but the Heritage atm though because thats the only one I've seen out behind regular trains.

NOTE: This caboose is NOT a former GN Caboose. Just an old BN Ce-11 painted in GN Scheme.
