Cabooses spotted on BNSF

A couple of weeks ago I drove several times along US route 6 between Arapahoe and Cambridge, Nebraska. A BNSF line parallels the highway within a 100 ft or so for much of the 15-mile distance.

I saw 2 BNSF trains with cabooses at the end of their consists. Both looked newly painted. One had somebody sitting up in the cupola. I saw other trains without cabooses. I wonder if they were just being transported or if BNSF is running some trains with cabooses.

Anybody know?

Were they local jobs? Railroads sometimes use cabeese on locals (but they're usually locked...)

Didn't know that about locals, Ferrous, thanks. These trains probably were locals. They were fairly short, mixed consists.
