Cab Mode lagging with a fresh install on a new computer.

Over the past few months, I have been gathering new components for a fresh new gaming system. Specs include an NVIDIA RTX 5070TI, AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and 32GBs of DDR5 6400MTS RAM. Finally put the system together just last night and today I finished Trainz Railroad Simulator 2022 SP6 HF1 and transferring all my content from my previous PC. Initial testing revealed a great deal of improvement with performance with routes being able to somehow run well over 100FPS.

However, on some routes, such as The Riverton Subdivision made by WiT Simulations. Performance would run excellent for around 5 minutes. And then drop down to 30-40FPS.

On top of that, it seems as if Cab Mode does not want to run smoothly no matter what. Frames will drop to 30FPS as soon as I enter cab view.

Is this normal for a new system that's still getting used to gaming or is there something seriously wrong?

Thought I'd add this. I'm using a G-Sync compatible monitor with G-sync enabled as well as Windows 11 as my operating system.

To get a better understanding of the problem. I have recorded a short video of this problem at hand.

Kill G-Sync. It's not compatible with Trainz and causes performance issues such as lagging, micro-stuttering, and gawd awful migraine headaches.

Interestingly, I had already turned G-Sync off before I had recorded the video. Though it doesn't seem to have helped. For some reason, the GPU and CPU appear to be limiting themselves at times as seen in the NVIDIA Performance overlay.

I have an older (sic) RTX3080 and I get about the same fps with that card. What are your temperatures? The video card will throttle back if it reaches 83 C. Once that starts, it'll bounce up and down in performance as it waivers around 83 C. I use MSI Afterburner and adjusted the fan speeds to keep the temps no higher than 80 C.

What other graphics settings are you using in Trainz? I have found that the shadows really beat up performance now, worse than before since SP6. They're a little better in the beta which is hopeful but I'm not holding my breath.

What I recommend is trying the same settings you used previously even if that card was slower. The thing is having a faster video card doesn't mean cranking the settings up will make it run any better. What usually happens is you'll end up reaching that brick wall very quickly and not only end up disappointed but also seeking out yet another hardware upgrade.

Settings are as follows:

Game Launcher settings:

Shadow Quality: Medium

Shader Quality: Standard

Texture Detail: High

Post Processing: Ultra

Water Quality: Ultra

Detail Scenery: Clutter + TurfFX

Antialiasing: 4X

Use PhysX Simulation: On

In game video settings:

Maximum Draw Distance: 5000m

Override Draw Distance Cap: off

Scenery Detail: Normal

Tree Detail: Normal

Post Processing: Ultra

These are the same settings I was using on my previous system with an Intel Core I9-10850K and RTX 3060TI and so far, outside of the card limiting itself. I've experienced a pleasurable increase in performance. As for the shadows, I've noticed that since the first day SP6 came out.

It may not matter, but what kind of drive is Windows and Trainz installed on? I don't recall seeing that mentioned in those higher end specs you have mentioned in the beginning of this thread.

Windows and the game itself is on a Samsung 9100 Pro 2tb NVME M.2 SSD. All of my Trainz content however is on a 6TB 7200RPM Toshiba X300 Hard drive.

I wonder if not having a DRAM cache is being hampered by the spinning 7200 RPM hard drive? That is all I can think of.

Your graphics settings are nearly the same as mine. The difference is I set my post processing to high instead of ultra.

SP6 is awful laggy in general. I think it has a lot to do with their new graphics system, which I can't remember what it's called right now, that turns everything into flipboards.
