British Railways Relay Boxes

Can someone please advise me on the correction location of the electrical relay boxes on British Railways (e.g. kuids -1:574 and -1:10143) . I seem to recall seeing them on barrier crossings, but would they also appear alongside each signal? Guidance from ex BR employees welcomed.

Thx. Colin

Relay boxes will appear anywhere where needed, so by a level crossing, signal or other electrical installation that deals with the safety of the railway.

"Driver" the relay boxes are known in railway terminology as "Locations" which is why you often see "LOC (number)" painted on the side.In semaphore signalling areas they"d normally be sited near a signal which was either a) Electrically lit b) Electrically repeated in the signalbox c)Track Circuited (these have a white diamond shaped plate on them) In colour light areas each signal would usually have one nearby. The "Tside Relay Box" built in to Trainz looks OK for the BR(E) or BR(NE) standard type but the common LNER type of slatted wooden construction isn"t available (yet).

Great responses ...... much appreciated.

Colin.

After thought: If North and South bound tracks (double track) both have electric light signals which are positioned opposite each other ......... would both signals be connected to a single relay box, or would they each have their own?

I"d say they would have their.own seperate ones .Just an idea ...assuming you have a "Drivers View" type video play it and check out how it works in practice?
