British Narrow Gauge routes

Learning... slowly!
Hello,

With the quality and quantity of British Narrow Gauge locomotives (and indeed stock) on the DLS improving, I need somewhere to run them! The only route I have at present that's suitable is the SI3D Skarloey Railway which I like but I was hoping for something a little more realistic. I know Clam's been working on the Welsh Highland Route but I was under the impression that that one hasn't been released for public enjoyment yet.

Are there any decent routes available- based such as the Corris, or the Talyllyn or somewhere like that? Or a quarry railway?

Many thanks.

There's my Dalmunzie route on the DLS... <KUID2:30024:20252:2>

Not the longest of routes but ideal for a quick 40 minute ride up and down the valley.

Got ideas for a couple more in similar vein but they only exist in the back of my head at present.

I've downloaded the Porthmadog = BF route, but I'm being thwarted by a missing: <kuid2:116296:16102:127> . Can anyone help me out with this?

Thanks in advance

Richard Lucas

I'm havindg difficulty with 2 of the kuids on your route. I hope you can help with a fix for a newbie. The problems are with:
KB_bird,<kuid2:52682:39413:1> and KB_bird,<kuid2:52682:39413:1> which are reported as faulty. Thanks in advance for your help

Not my route but
<kuid2:116296:16102:127> Wheelbarrow by skipper1945, just search for it, it's on the dls

the other 2 KB.... I don't appear to have but I expect it's the faulty wav file, needs opening with something like audacity and re-exporting in the correct format. see here http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?107367-Fixing-Sound-File-Errors-in-HF4

Considering that you mentioned Talyllyn (and that it's my favorite narrow gauge railway), there is one route based on Talyllyn on the DLS, but it isn't really... that good, to put it nicely. It isn't that bad, but it isn't that good either.

Hi Phil, I'm partial to narrow gauge myself and I downloaded Porthmadog after I visited Wales 2 years ago. I did find a few missing items but was able to find them and I replaced them with another similar asset. You mentioned Talyllyn,.. now if you like the route but not happy with the layout, then change it to suit your own requirements. I've seen some really great layouts, but it's what other people think. I believe if you think you can make an improvement somewhere, then do it but always give credit where it came from. Cheers.

Funny that you mention making improvements. I'm currently making my own improvements to the Railways Series version of the Skarloey Railway available on Sodor Island 3D. Not sure if I'll release it, though. But, I guess I could take a swing at the Talyllyn route. Thanks for the suggestion!

Just want to give notice, you'd have to get permission from the SI3D team to release a modified SI3D route, even if it is from the 06 site.

Further to Dalmunzie, just like to point out that Tony (tmz06003) along with other community friends have done a rework of my original route into a period setting and it's on the DLS as <kuid:283805:100151>

Enjoy.

Cheers Vern! I'm fond of Dalmunzie actually - it's a really nice route. The only problem with it was that there wasn't a long enough length of track at each end for the loco to clear the loop points to run around.
I'll have a look at the new route now :)

Noted for future projects. It's a common problem doing standard gauge routes too with a run round loop/loco release spur. In reality these would be just long enough to accommodate the length of the loco (or maybe two) so the shunter could operate the ground frame. However to get the AI to do it in Trainz, needs at least 50 or 60 metres of spur - as the "clearing point" must be way beyond the point motor or lever.

Wounder if Blackton Valley v2 orginally 2006? would come up in 2012, might need some mods, good sized route, loop with a branch and to industries, would be worth the work.

Made room for the SR / SR livery L&B locos and stock in 2012

Tom

P.S. been fiddling with my old I.W.N.G. in 2006 lately as well. Did a few fields and rebuilt Newport, realized in wrong position sth river instead of nth but since it is 2ft fictious version it can stay there.
