Bridges

I'm having difficulty with manipulating bridges... seem you can move the spline points around properly with the anchor gadget, but if you try to move them with the info box, only the track moves, the bridge stays put.

Also, some bridges are impossible to select once they are placed and unselected... only the track will select.

Edit: This occurs with road bridges, as well...

Hello
This has been a problem for a long time. The fix is to bring your road or track close to the bridge. Now add road or track from the bridge and connect the spline points. The next thing to do is delete the joining spline point and your road or track should jump into place. Hope that helps to fix your problem.

huh?

this doesn't involve any other road or track...

Try placing your bridge then snapping the road or track to the bridge rather than trying to drag the bridge to the road or track.

This issue came about in TS12 I think after SP1 when there was a change in the classification of bridges and other splines. Bridges and double track (obsolete) objects are classed as tunnels as are tunnels. All other splines such as track and roads are classed as track. To differentiate between these two, a track has the tag isroad 0.

Prior to this time, we could easily attach bridges to tracks or roads by dragging the bridge to what we wanted to instead of fighting with the splines.

well its not a matter of attaching the track, its a matter of positioning the bridge with fine control, whether or not track is attached to it.

I think the OP, is that when you are trying to adjust a bridge placement BEFORE you connect track, you can move spline points around OK with the anchor tool, but not with the info box. At least that is how I read it. I am not clear on the info box.
Fiero, by info box, do you mean the rotate tool in the asset selector? If so, I could see that happening, as you may be either working with the track tab (move track), or with the object spline tab (move bridge spline). Whichever you are on will move but maybe the other doesn't. Is this what you are saying? If not, I apologize for not understanding. I do know I have had trouble trying to position bridges this way and have had to do a lot of fiddling and frustration sometimes.

What's so difficult?

Go to the advanced tools and type in a value, apply it to both sides of the bridge unless there's a reason not to. If the value doesn't work, either undo the operation and try again or add additional amounts until you get what you want. I've done this since December 2003 with little problems at all.

If you're trying this in S20, good luck.

I gave up trying to adjust nodes in S20. First, they're the size of a flea footprints no matter which resolution I choose for my monitor and second, they're extremely finicky. Go into Classic Surveyor, adjust the height and be done with it. You can put in values in the advanced section of the spline tools and adjust the height.

Now, don't get me wrong here. I mentioned the tool sizes and other issues in the early days of S20. I was told it's a WIP. That's all fine and dandy... But now the developers have moved on to other bells and whistles and other pretty fancy schmancy things such as high-resolution terrain with 16 textures. BFD. Fix the interface first and get the tools working before giving us something new. S20 is like owning an old house that's forever under renovation but the owner added some extra porches, a pool, but hasn't upgraded the wiring or plumbing since he bought the house in 1960 or put on a new roof.

I agree with you 100%, John. The legacy of Trainz is the introduction of new features that are not completely flesh out and then abandoned to move on to the next new thing. TRS2004's broken and illogical waybill and industry system, TS12's Multiplayer system left with just basic functionality for 10 years until MPS but even MPS is still lacking the basic ability of creating a MPS route which is limited to just you and your invited friends.

Its almost as if the developers have ADHD and lack focus. Or maybe they are hoping by some miracle that an angel swoops in and says "Ok boys, I'll do the hard stuff for you".
