Anyone ever thought of building this? I didn't know where to post this, so I figured this was as good as any.

The TroughTrain was built by JohnstownAmerica, and was a continous 13 car consist, that had single truck axles on end cars. It allowed continous loadout speeds as the train was virtually a 13 car hinged hopper. After a huge derailment they were all abolished on the spot, and scrapped. Hooking many 13 car consists together allowed the loading speeds of coal to be really fast.

I remember a number of years ago as I was driving between Denver and Colorado Springs I saw the remains of one parked on a mainline siding. The end of the leading unit was folded up like a beer can. I still wonder what happened to it.

There was an accident when on of the B-units broke and the rest is history. I think I saw this too back in 2008 while traveling between Dumas Texas and Denver on I-20.

Don't think it was I 20, which runs E-W, and at the closest to Dumas TX, is 333 miles away. And Denver, CO is even further away.

US 287, maybe?

I have seen a consist very similar to this on the Raritan Valley line in New Jersey. I'm not sure if it was a trough, per se, but it was a string of short cars with shared trucks. I wasn't doing railfan video yet, so I have no record of it. I seem to recall it was hauling scrap metal. This was a year or two ago. It had to have been either CSX or Norfolk Southern, since those are the only two freight companies on that line. It probably wasn't a trough, but it was articulated with the shared trucks in a similar way.

We were heading up from Texas to Denver. After looking at the map, it was actually US 25. We had gone to Mt. Capulan first then headed north towards Denver. In 2010 we cut across through Lamar towards Denver.

I'll probably be on this route again this year. We chase in the Cap Rock and Panhandle regions of Texas this time of year. I'll be out there in the first 2 weeks of May.

I have some blueprints for a smaller version, which i think was the demo one? I already started one unit for the Trough Train consist. I plan on having all parts go on the DLS when completed
