Bit confused about route copying

I moved my route built from 2004 to 2006 some time ago. As I am having erratic probs with my present main pc I thought I would try copying it from there to the other lesser pc as a kind of early check on transferring. However when I import the route cdp into the CMP it is yellow so obviously faults. When I check there are 1,400 odd files and indicates a few on the DLS and hundreds with a ? for unknown.

Probably werongly I thought that copying the Local Folder was the way. I then copied my Local Folder to the other pc and still have a problem as when going into the actual route oodles of track, scenery are missing and looks like an H Bomb drop. What am I doing wrong here? I need to know the way to solve this transfer before I replace my present main pc. This route has taken me well over two and a half years off and on covering a whole city so you can understand my concern. Out of cuiosity i tried imprting into TRS2009 but the same situ exists. The original is working fine of course and my eventual intentio apart from driving the tramway myself is toi put it on the DLS eventually.

Hi Bob,

Your first problem when copying into 2006, try changing the settings from openGL to directx or vice versa. Missing assets, did you delete assets.tdx and\or assets.bku?

Importing into TS2009 did you rebuild the database in CMP2?

Sorry if these things are obvious but you may have forgotten them.

Hi Bill,

I know that the GL and other item can be switched when you have flashing matters. As for the attempt to copy from one machine in TRS2006 to the other in TRS2006 I didn't delete either assets.tdx and\or assets.bku before doing so, Not to proud to ask - should I have done??

As for my attempt to import it into my laptop which has TRS2009 the route cdp immediately showed up yellow in the CMP (as above) although when I initially went into the CMP it did a rebuild. Have to admit a bit vague in this area so need a step by step! I am even more concerned now as my main pc is increasingly going belly up and had to use Safe Mode to get into it so a new machine is going to be next hence my worry. Just in case I have copied the whole TRS2006 Folder (with Local, World, etc) along with a cdp onto a seperate HD. No probs show up with the original route on that main pc that is now paying silly "b's". Any way to get by this hurdle would be appreciated.

Bobby
ps. Can someone tell me if a pc with NVidia and ends in GS is that a higher graphics card than GT?

Hi Bob,

After copying your TRS2006 local folder into your laptop you should delete the file assets.tdx then start CMP and allow it to rebuild the database. This might take some considerable time depending on how many assets you have. The assets tdx file is in the main TRS2006 directory, you may not have an assets.bku file, it does not always exist, don't wory about it.

I am not too sure about TS2009, but if it said it was rebuilding the database when you opened it things should be ok. so long as you left it to complete the process.

I am not too sure about the graphics cards as I use ATI cards so I will let someone else answer that one.

Cheers,
Bill

Bill,

After doing tdx which I had realised I had originally forgot about the route was back to being complete on my second pc. Just as well as the original machine is teetering on the edge! Oddly, on the new pc the route shows as having probs and when I check a list of faulty cdps show and didn't get that on the original pc. But for now I have route in full scenery although I have the black screen showing. This is also strange as the 'faulty' are main items.

Have still to see what I can do with the route on the laptop and the 2009.

Hi Bobby,

Right click on one of the faulty items and select show errors from the window that pops up. It might be simple to fix them, maybe a tag from 2004 that is not supported in 2006 or a tag with the wrong syntax, or maybe just a typo somewhere. There is always the possibility that they were fixed before and have reverted to original when you reinstalled on the new machine.

Cheers,
Bill

Thanks for rpeiles.

Bill,I am of course still a bit puzzled. I went back to the matter of TRS2006 from the dying pc to the other machine and these faults showing up. They were perfectly okay in 06 on the first pc and well know items such as road, pavements etc. They do indicate tag matters which are an unknown world to me. Its is puzzling that they wer okay with 06 on the initial machine. It is a groan as the route took me well oveer two years to do and I laid everything as had existed until 1962 with oodles of track. I painstakingly made sure no route was miussed and even walked the former lines. To date on the alternative machine I get the black screen up (didn't get that on the other!).

This is a really big tram network covering nye on 250 boards so not to be kept just for me.

Hi there,

I think you are experiencing something that happened to me a while ago. Can I ask have you ever done a system restore on your old PC?

I did once and CMP forgot about all the errors it was nagging me about a week earlier. 1 year on and I've been transferring routes etc to a new install on a new PC, and what do you know? - lots of errors to fix in the new machine that aren't flagged on the old machine.

I guess the errors were always there, it's just that CMP had forgotten to tell Trainz about them. All in TRS2006.

Hi stovepipe,

I am afraid you misread my groan. The old pc is just about dead but the tram route worked fine on it with no problems - no faults no black screen just great. It was when I installed TRS2006 on my other pc I got the problems. That pc works okay. Now I get a number of well known items indicating faults and it seems to be something to do with tags. This is what puzzled me that the route was fine on pc No 1 but not on pc No 2. Maybe I should indicate what comes up in the faults and this might be clearer to folks so will do this on Wednesday.

Uhm, sounds pretty similar to me.....but maybe I'm getting confused between your old PC, new PC, PC no 1 and PC no 2.:p

Post you errors and I'll help If I can.

There are 7 faulties all showing errors and thus showing the route as faulty hence the black screen. They are...

Alstom_offices
Alsytom offices2
MS_fence_Diagonal
MS_Fench_Mesh
MS_Fence3
MS_Platform_Double
Parking Lot Double
Parking Lot Single

The first two show errors which are the Alstom offices both say -
The tag 'user name' is not permitted within this container (Container type 'scenery)

The next 6 all each say the following example
Compulsory tag'carrate' was missing and has been set to default
" " 'grounded' was missing and has been set to default
" " 'broad' was missing and has been set to default
" " 'rgb' was missing and has been set to default
" " 'shadows' was missing and has been set to default
" " 'upright' was missing and has been set to default
" " 'visible'-on-mini-map was mssing and has been set to default
The tag 'mesh table' is not permitted within the container (Contains type 'track')

There is a different tag name on the 3rd line down for each one by the way
If I could solve these 9 problems the route seems okay as nothing else is mssing, etc.

Coming this far after so long and getting a hitch is frustrating.

Ok, these are minor errors and certainly not show-stoppers.

the first two are easy:

The tag should be "username". Most assets I've corrected have both "username" and "user-name" so delete the latter one. If only one tag, correct it to "username".

The next ones are warnings and not errors, ignore them if they have a yellow triangle exclamation mark - they will not stop your route working.

The "mesh-table" is not permitted in container track, is an error, but I never try to fix it, as I think it is something older content needs to work. The black screen you are getting on starting Trainz will still occur, but if you are down to one error I would load the route anyway. I have loads like this and they all run.

You can stop the black screen appearing by going into CMP, settings, miscellaneous tab, and checking "suppress asset warnings in Trainz" box.

Just to be clear, as you have copied a route over from your old PC, these errors were there anyway. You just weren't seeing them - do you have suppress asset warnings checked on the old computer?

Can I ask (cough) how you get into change or delete those tags? I will then try that on the 2nd machine where Trainz2006 is. As an aside to this after a dashed lot of effort I managed to re-install XP on pc 1 which was actually better for running Trainz. I will be interested to see if this is still the case in due course. PC was originally used mainly for trying things out as it tends to pause every 10 secons, pause for 5 and so on. Once I find out how to get into those tags I will have a crack at it. If as you say the black screen is stil there I will not let it put me off. The next stage will be getting the odd queries I have about the upload. Meantime the info I need at the moment about accessing tags is the matter in hand!

right click on asset in CMP, select "edit in Explorer".

Find the folder that CMP opens for you, locate the config file, open it in notepad. Browse file until you find the faulty tag, correct it and save. close folder window, go back to CMP, commit asset using ctrl+m.

You might want to make a copy of the config file before you open it if your new to this.

There is an asset fixing guide for CMP here

Sorry for delay in replying. Some regular intermittent health probs. Thanks for that further information. I think I will have to suss out specs for a new pc as well now. The No 1 pc which was fine with TRS06 has had it's day. PC no 2 has TRS06 on it more for trying things as it is awfully sticky trying to use it. Things are really jerky. Must see threads on specs to get a machine that will do justice to my route and Trainz. Thanks again for assistance.
