Big Quake hits Christchurch NZ again

Very little to say in these circumstances other than to send my support and condolences to those who have suffered losses.

Another one?? Seriously, poor kiwi's, there isn't enough land to keep hitting in NZ, and what was the cause

My condolences to all (Nzers)

Jamie

I have been watching the reports on television this morning and I am sure I speak for many here in Britain when I say our thoughts go with you especially those who have lost friends, family and homes.

We can only hope that things turn out better than the television reports on possible casualties are expecting.

May your God go with you.

Bill

My thoughts also go to those in Christchurch. I lived there for 12 months many years ago and often visited the center square. From the news I have seen this area was hit hard.

I have so many good memories of Christchurch, the recent devastation brings tears to my eyes.

Latest update; 75 confirmed dead... Up to 300 unaccounted for... Eleven people rescued overnight from collapsed buildings... Largest/highest building in Christchurch CBD (a hotel) has serious structural damage and engineers suspect it may also collapse at any stage... Safely zone cordon around this building has been widen as a result, for obvious safety reasons...

Approximate 17 aftershocks have occurred so far since the 6.3 quake, in the 4 to 5 magnitude range which are hampering the safely of search & rescue crews...

One rescue site (6 story building that's pancaked) has become too unsafe for rescue crews to continue sifting through the rubble so they have been pulled off that site and move to help other rescue crews working on a 4 story building (that's also pancaked), where some people that are trapped have been able to make cellphone calls to love ones, letting them know they are still alive...

Specialist rescue teams have already arrived to help with the rescue operations from Aussie... Specialist rescue teams (1 each) are expected from UK, USA, Taiwan, Japan & Singapore in the next 24 to 48 hours....

300 Aussie cops are also on there way to Christchurch to assist...

Six looters have already been arrested... (my personal view is under the circumstances, they should all be given a fair trial, before they are shot) !!!

Aussie PM (bless her heart) has insure that Australia is the first country to step up to the plate and has given $5 million to the earthquake relief fund. (that's the bond that the Kiwi's & diggers have always had since WW1). We might nearly always beat them on the rugby field, but more often that not, they are nearly always thrashing us on the cricket field...

It will be interesting to see if other counties, (one in particular) will step up to the plate also, to offer some sort of a donation to the relief fund, in-light of "them" donating hundreds of millions dollars to the Haiti earthquake relief fund... Not that I'm inferring that the people of Haiti didn't desperately need that relief !!!

Early estimates for the repair bill could be as high as the 16 billion dollars mark.... This doesn't include the nearly 8 billion that has already been spent on damage that was cause by the Sept 04 (2010) CHCH 7.1 earthquake...

Cheers, Mac...

We to fast forget living on one big fireball insde "mother' earth

My thoughts with all of you out there and past away.
Horrible and there is an old saying When things go wrong (many) all go wrong at the same time.
Its like the world crisis(1,2,3) Dictators not paying the rent get kicked out. All politicians become upper priest if it helps the cose, the world is not getting worse only we read and have to see more about it "thanks" to the media (the new dictators) ruling the world.
I try not to watch the news as much as possible, newspapers already stopped 20 years ago, now the tv is the next one to go, only read the highlights on the internet and of course our forum.
The world repeats itself in history of what can happen to people and mother earth.
We can call it paradise but that is the best you can have at a moments feeling breath it coz the next minute it can be totally different.

love you guys,

Roy and Ning:(

Another earthquake again so soon...and deaths this time around. It's so saddening...I hope they can rescue those who are trapped and that no one else gets hurt.

Godspeed and prayers to you folks in NZ!

I just saw pictures. This is devastating. Being from California, I can relate. Hope it works as best it can for our friends in New Zealand.

Hi guys

Things in Christchurch are pretty bad by all accounts. I'm in Dunedin (about 350km south) and we felt the first couple of shakes quite bad here, so it must have been really rough there. My partners extended family are all ok but have lost 3 houses this time.
If anyone can help the best bet at this time is to make a donation here:

www.redcross.org.nz/donate

There's massive amounts of damage and a lot of it is not being screened by the media at this time. Your thoughts are very much appreciated though!

Yes! New Zealand!

 Yes New Zealand to the courage to face this absolute disaster.

I, as a watcher of our Southwestern Pacific rim, pray that God, even our Lord Jesus will stand stead through this disaster & help the United States of America to throw in & help our friends from Oz!

Well well, I thought you would have enough experience to know the diference between New Zealand and Australia. We are not an Australian State yet. But to their credit there are some Aussies here helping.

Cheers,

Hi guys

Still no reply from Trevor (Fender849) who made the Johnsonville line and many of the NZR locos.
I know that much of Christchurch is without power (and may be for some time to come) so he may not be able to reply.

Things are very serious down there. Search and rescue teams are looking for survivors in the toppled buildings but they are now worried that the tallest skyscraper in town is sinking into the ground and may topple causing a domino effect.
I think Trevor lives in the outer suburbs so, unless he had gone to town, I suspect hes OK.

Michael

this is depressing, one after the other,my thoughts and prayers for the surviving and the families, and the 75 who did not survive!:(

Here is a pic of the seismograf drum near Christchurch depicting the last 24 hours. The red bits are traces that have been truncated because they are too big.
