Beginner question

Hi,

I would like to start with something simple like going from point A to point B.

Coupling wagons is not a problem, driving into cab neither. Using properly brakes with 25 heavy wagons is a trivial joke too. I really anyway can't understand :

1 ) How can I find on a map a place where I am supposed to go ?

2 ) Do I have to manually operate every single switch while driving and going inside and outside the map or is there a human way to have switches set for my destination in advance and I simply have to drive ?

Thanks

Instruct the train to DRIVE TO: it will set the switches for the route, and indeed drive there

Right click on the loco

I am a rank beginner too, but I have found in my 2009 instal that there are some routes that have all of this laid out for you. The Hawes Junction sessions in particular are fun as are the Marias Pass. Try the THRA canadian route sessions also. These routes will tell you as you approach that you are close and what you have to do.

However I suspect you are like me and find that there are a number of routes that merely say "explore the route" with nothing else. I have tried googling the makers of such routes so that I can get a properly laid out session with the routes like you (or maybe it is just me) describe. I haven't had much luck.

There are many, many routes...thinking, gears are turning...more information needed: US, European, Austrailian, Steam, Diesel, Passenger, Freight ?

Thanks for the reply. I did that but how can I spot on a map my destination ?

I mean, .....order : go to Denver for example, ok I open the map and I start looking for Denver scrolling here and there zooming in here and out there , is there a " search " function ?

Thanks a lot for your answers

1. If you have TRS 2004 or TRS2006 you can use Vistamare's Trainzmap to generate a map of the route.
If you are asking about TRS2009 or TRS2010 then you could try this:
Open the route in Surveyor (Edit Route) then press Ctrl M to get the map. Run thru the route noting town names and the order that they occur and which branch goes where.

2. You can toggle the switch in front of you by pressint the J key. Ctrl J will toggle the switch behind you.
Adding the mc Display Custom HUD V2 rule in a session will provide you with info on switch and signal light status.

That's my last question, how to know if the upcoming switch is correctly set for my route and how to know if a signal is red or green with a decent amount of time in order to stop ?

Where can I find please Display custom HUD V2 ? Is it a freeware ? I have Trainz 2010.

Thanks a lot mate

Gunter.
Your first job as a new driver is to read the manual carefully about three times. Make notes of items that you are not sure of and then load a simple session. Hawes junction is indeed a good starting session. Keep asking questions on the forum as you progress. In about two years you should be able to get your licence to drive a highly complicated loco . In other words, learn practice, learn practice. You will get the hang of it.

I thank you for your help, I just need which is the kuid of the display hud v2 cause I can't find it on the DLS.

Once I know the next signal in advance I'll be done, not 2 years, 2 hours are enough for a decent level , I just miss to know the next signal color in advance.

Thanks

MC display custom hud V2 by PGUY (put pguy in search engine. Tick back to 2006. Tick author. KUID2:61392:1070:1. Let us know if you find it.

Neither putting the author name nor the kuid the search engine is able to find it.

Shooting in the dark manually there is a " Display HUD " made by Auran , dunno what it is but it smells of outdated.

Suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Hmmm. ..strange..... on my initial search using the kuid criteria vs all the engine found nothing, now same criteria ( kuid vs all ) found it.

I have downloaded the cdp and once I will know how to install it I,ll use it. I think that's exactly the tool I was looking for, now if I'll be able to let it work, driving trains will become funny & easy.

Thanks a lot mate, much appreciated, a beer paid :)

Gunter2,

One way you can find things, whether in Driver or Surveyor, is hit Ctrl-F (control key and F at the same time)

This will bring up the Find screen. Then you will see sideways arrows to choose Industries, Vehicles, and so on. You will see a list, click on whatever you want to see, and the camera will go there..

Also (a good thing to learn), is to read the PDF maunual, which is on your hard drive in The Program Files/ Auran folder, then there is a folder called Docs (or something). Use the Find feature in Adobe Reader and search for "Find" (or whatever you would like to learn about).

Not everything is in there, but quite a bit. I learned how to "merge" two routes by reading the PDF manual! Best of luck to you, Bob P. ;)

I read the manual 2 times buy I really can't find a way to let that custom display work. No custom display means no game for me cause I can't imagine if behind the corner the signal will be red or green.

I ask for mercy, I am an idiot and a retarded guy, someone have please to gimme some instructions on how to let this display work, please bear in mind I have not been fiddling with trainz since several years like you all so please do not think about the obvious cause for me nothing is obvious.

Thanks

Gunter,

First of all you are not retarded! This is not a nice thing to say about yourself. This program, and it's user manual are not very lucid all the time. As I've posted in another thread. In some ways, Auran like many other companies, as gone beyond the simple way of doing things, and has made things more and more complicated. I have another friend who has complained about the same thing with her remote control!

Anyway, the custom HUD is found as a session add-on. In Surveyor, where you add commands for the drivers, there are session add-ons such as weather control, physics, etc. In that list will be the custom HUD.

I hope this helps, and remember don't be so hard on yourself.

John

Hi Gunter,

Nearly everyone finds Trainz overwhelming at first. Stick with it, things will make sense in a while.

Here's how to enable the custom HUD in TRS2004. If you have another version of Trainz then the procedure might vary slightly but I don't think it's likely to be significantly different.
1. Because the custom HUD is a built-in asset, you don't need to download anything.
2. Go into Surveyor and load the relevant layout and session.
3. Edit Session Rules > Add > Display Custom HUD > Click the OK tick.

4. Left click once on "Display Custom HUD" so as to select it > Edit > Select the "Show the custom heads up display" option > Click the OK tick.
5. Click the OK tick to exit "Edit Session Rules".
6. When you run the session, the custom HUD will be displayed automatically.

Hope this helps. Keep asking, keep posting!

John

Guys, your kindness and skills made me succeed.

I have really no words to thank you.

Thanks a lot, really.
