' Been thinking about track sounds.

This has probably been brought up before, but I'm too lazy to search the forums.

I was thinking the other night about this so this thought is still in the rough. With track sounds, why not turn off the system track sounds completely, and use an invisible track with the sound. The invisible track could then be "tuned" into the type of sound for that particular section of track. By this I mean Trams and LRVs would be able to have a real wheel screech as they go around the sharp curves, the rail joints clickety-clack could be modified so it doesn't have a constant rhythm, and points wouldn't sound rumbly.

The process would be somewhat complicated to work with, I think. Instead of just pluncking down the rails and going, this would be a two-step or more process. First we'd need to lay the rails normally, then afterwards a chosen type of invisible track would then be laid on top. The signals and junction levers would attached to the invisible track, and removed from the regular track.

This would mean that sounds would have to be attached to the invisible track. One track would have the switch-point sounds, another would have the rail-joints, and another could be for bridges. This track of course would vary from the type of track, and the region as some areas have more joints, and some rail junctions sound different than others. So this too is quite complicated to create.

The advantage of this is we'd be able to choose the track we want rather than be stuck with what someone has made for us with a specific sound.

Anyway just a thought, and not meaning to have any content creator feel they're being pressured into something, which is not the intent of this post.

John,

i know nothing about content creation. But the RTS track already has its own unique track sound.

Plus i have used a route ( can't remember which ). Where a bridge had different track sounds from the default "clickety clack" and very good they were too.

So it is all possible. Plus if you place a short section of the RTS track in a route, attached to the main track layout.

Then whatever track is in use, picks up the sound file from the RTS track.

All clever stuff. ;)

IKB.

Thanks Jay, for searching for me. ;)

At least my last night's thinking was on track.

@IKB - This sure is clever stuff. I'll have to check out the RTS track. I've used that bridge in my route. It's really nice and that's what set the idea I have.

Will these proposed railsound tracks be able to be created so that 04/06 users will bea able to use them ?

I was playing with the Squeel Track and it gets kinda monotanous unless you use it only in tight switching industrial areas, only over turnouts, and in short segments, sporaticly placed in selective far apart areas.

thats what the squeal track was made for. it was not intended to be used all over the place.

i hate to agree with the above post, but yea, its time to move on. i know how you feel about it as i have seen it many places all over the forum, but honestly wanting everything in 04/06 limits content creators on many levels. there are so many more things one can do with 09/10 content. i tried and tried to make several assets work in all versions from 04 and up as i normally try to do, but i realized i was doing way more work than what it was worth to me just to have things work in a version i don't even use. so those assets are now obsoleted by ts09/10 only assets that work MUCH better and have many more abilities than they could if i had left them 04/06. the old ones will remain, but will no longer be updated. this is quite possibly something that may effect my locomotive releases if it ever comes to a point where i cannot script some feature i want or something big like that (it has not yet, everything should still work in 04 and up). i will not hesitate to drop 04/06 to get more out of my content if i hit the limitations of those platforms.
