I don't really see the need for this rule. No offense or anything, but it is just lettering. We have a wide range of ages on these forums. Capital letters are consider yelling, but is it really that big of a deal? I also dislike the use of all capital letters without reason. What is my solution? I just read it and move on.

I guess when it comes down to it... There are so many more important things to be worried about. Divert your energy to something more productive. Like sitting in front of your computer building a fictional railroad network. :Y:

You are the only person that can control how you feel.

Well said!

As far as I'm concerned, if someone wants to write in caps or bold or magnified text, go for it!

NICE BOLD CAPITAL LETTERS easy on the eye. Less eye strain even with glasses. Reading a monitor is unatural anyway as far as reading is concerned and possible eye strain.

No such thing as shouting when typing as exactly the same as writing a letter. Capital letters are useful though for emphasis.

I would imagine through using forums many people are much more aware nowadays about writing, and perhaps has helped many too become more confidant whether whether using capitals, or not!

ENJOY YOUR LETTER WRITING AND IF TOO MANY COMPLAINTS PERHAPS RETURN TO THE RELIABLE QUILL AND PARCHMENT.
I WOULD IMAGINE CONTENT CREATION IS MORE IMPORTANT ANYWAY WHETHER ROUTES OR THE CONTENT TO USE IN THEM

Try writing 1,000,000 resume's written in capital letters...you will get zero positive responces, receive only complaints, and no one will read them.

Where is this "Ignore" button located ?

Threads and posts written in caps do not bother me half as much as threads and posts that contain little or nothing of importance !

And polls , don't forget about the poll threads !

All caps is just irritating to me, but that's just my lowly opinion. When I see one in all caps, I just don't read it. I'm an architect and most lettering on drawings is in all caps. It's just a matter of convention and one gets used to it, but for some reason, when I see something in all caps on a screen, it makes it difficult for me to read. Just my problem I guess.

Well said, this is also my opinion. Why worry about such a LITTLE issue, as said, life is too short to get upset about it. I would rather complain about starting a thread about something IMHO (there you are, another reason to get upset :p) as unimportant as this one here which has absolutely NOTHING whatsoever to do with trains :hehe:.

But since I am NOT the complaining type, I will not complain about it .

Easy to get carried away with CAPS but sometimes one has to use them to emphasize a point.

Just have a good laugh, life is too short without one.

Personally, I look at what is written not how it was written. All caps just doesn't bother me all that much. I guess we will all have to just learn to adjust to people are all different and while it may seem huge to you it is insignificant to others.

And un-readable to many...:hehe:

The use of capital letters and underlining isn't tolerated in the printing industry, nor should it be when communicating with others by whatever written means. If you want proof, here's a little exercise you can try with your family. Take a full page of text, say from a novel. Print one copy in Capitals and give it to a member of the family who can read the fastest. Make another copy using standard caps and lower case and give it to another person who can't read as fast. Time them both. The person reading the standard caps and lower case will not only finish first, they will also have better comprehension.

It's a well recorded fact that sentances in Capitals take almost twice as long to read as those written in lower case. if you don't believe me, just do some research on the Internet or do the above exercise at home. Underlining makes it worse.

Hi Johnk,

Well, I took your suggestion and did some research on the topic.

According to the National Institute of Health, who did some testing on the subject of lower case vs. caps, the tests results are somewhat different than you suggest.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2016788/

The conclusion of the testing is located at the bottom of the report.

Here is the Conclusion:CONCLUSION

Our finding that size thresholds for upper-case text were lower than those for lower-case text in Experiment 1 are not surprising, and corroborate the findings of (M.Tinker, 1963) that at great viewing distance (as simulated by small visual size), upper-case text is more legible, even in a font with a relatively large x-height, which might be expected to minimize upper- and lower-case differences. Other fonts, which typically have smaller x-heights, might be expected to show upper-case text to have even greater relative legibility. Contrary to Tinker’s findings, and the conventional wisdom, is the result that upper-case text is more legible in terms of reading speed, for readers with reduced acuity due to visual impairment, and in normally-sighted readers when text is visually small. This result may have practical significance as well; it suggests that, apart from economic considerations of how much space a given sample of text occupies, letter size determines legibility for low vision readers and for those viewing visually small text; and when point size is fixed, upper-case text is simply more legible, albeit less aesthetically appealing, than lower-case.

So, who is correct.... I do not know.

But as many have said here, it is all really not relevant to Trainz.

Regards and have fun,
Ron

John it is a forum for relaxation, and a hobby.
So with all the problems in life I don't think it is even worth considering this thread, except for light reading and perhaps entertainment.
More for quill and parchment and copperplate writing myself:)

HAPPY READING FOR THOSE THAT LIKE CAPITALS
Happy reading for all the others.

In the issue of using capitals all the time, if a person needs the larger font to read because of eye problems , may I suggest they hold down the control key,use the wheel on the mouse to enlarge the print. This should work with any application .

People who contribute little to nothing in the matter of screenshots, content or just make useless, negative comments bother me...
You still ramble about the polls?
That was over a year ago. Drop it already, the humor of it is over...don't you have anything better to do than mention that...again?
Yawn.

Anyway!
I'm still seeing some very good points here, regardless of some posts^.
I think my real point here which I was almost scared to make clear is...people who post useless one line threads, whether they contain useless text speak or all caps, they are still annoying.
Frankly, we are being over run with a flood of these posters lately.
I am sick and tired of coming onto my threads or any other and finding a 'I agree" comment under everyother post, more often than not this post will agree with two people, both with opposite opinions!:'( GAH!
Plainly I am tired of reading posts from posters who write as if they belong on a chat room.

Perhaps you can understand that frustration?

Cheers,
Woody:wave:

That's a neat trick. I didn't know about that one. Thanks.

There was a young man from Stroud,

Whose voice wwww
wwwas exceedingly LOUD,

And then one day,

It faded away ........

I honestly cannot see the point of anyone contributing to threads like this! .

So, if I post saying I agree, I bother you.
If I don't post anything, I bother you.
If I post something positive like "nice shot", I bother you.
If I make a negative post or disagree, I bother you.
And, lord forbid, I miss spell something.

Woody, my friend, looks like you've pretty much taken any conversation at all out of the equation.
