I have been on the same site that told you all the things wrong with the story and how it could never happen in that way. The movie had some MAJOR flaws in it, but I still liked it. Everyone is entitled to there own opinion. The worst flaw is that train brakes are fail safe. Once the brake hoses lose pressure, the brakes activate on emergency.
They could have tried uncoupling the box car with the bomb on it AND THEN try to slow the train down. If that didn't work for whatever reason, they could have got the crew on the 'chase train' and the derail the train.
