ATLS Questions ( using ATLS Demo set up route )

Hello,

I'm trying the ATLS-system ( in Trainz2010 ) with the ATLS Demo Set up route and I have some questions about it.

1) I would like to save my ATLS-settings without using a session. Is this possible? If so, how ?

2) I started with a test using all settings on the situation ( ref Advanced Traffic Light System – (ATLS) V2.1(Feb 2010) - atls1.pdf - page 2 )

I did 3 settings ( change the red/green dots ) with the ATLS-controller ( ref page 3 )

a) all dots placed red - and when checking it in driver-mode all cars stopped before the red lights
b) all dots placed green - and when checking it in driver-mode all cars passed the traffic lights
c) dots were placed for route 1 green - red and route 2 red - green - and when checking it in driver-mode

The cars stopped before a green light and were riding when the light was red.

Am I overlooking something in the situation c) ?

Best regards

Hi Kurt,

1 - Yes you can save the settings without a session. See 'Saving to a Map' in the Tutorial or at the end of the asset's instructions.

2- Sounds like you have the modes the wrong way round. Just reverse the red/greeen or post a picture here.

All the best,

Boat

Hello Boat,

Thank you for your reply and info.

1. I used the info which is on page saving to the map ( if required ) and saved the route as ATLS1[x,y,z] ( with the figures from the top left corner ).

I closed trainz10 and re-opened the route. All the settings were back to OFF.

I restarted but now I created a session. Replaced all settings - saved the session and route. Closed Trainz10, re-opened it and checked the session.

All settings were still available. However when I check the route ( not the session in the route ), the settings are OFF ( ).

What I am doing wrong?

2) I placed the settings just like in the picture on page 3 of the Advanced Traffic Light System – (ATLS) V2.1(Feb 2010) - atls1.pdf

Is this correct?

Best regards

Kurt

Hi Kurt,

OK, First of all, to be clear it's not the Route you save as ATLS1[x,y,z], its the name of the individual ATLS asset.

The only other thing I can think is that you want to save to the map, (or Route) you will need to be sure you save the assets to the 'Route' and not just the Session. You can either open the Route to edit in... or if you are in the session, you should be able to move the asset to the Route Layer when you right-click on it. Use the drop-down box to change to 'route-layer' then re-save.

The instructions in my Tutorial are correct. If your traffic is stopping when it should go and vice-versa then you either need to switch the Controller settings or the Route settings in the Slave. Ensure you have connected the correct Slave to the correct Stopper. I will need a picture to help you more.

Regards,

Boat

Hello Boat,

It was absolutely clear to me about naming the route. I named it ATLS1[x,y,z] so I would be able to remember in a few weeks/months what the route was all about.

But, my trainz2010 version is not so cooperative when I try to save the ATLS-assets to the route-layer of the route. Whenever I place the assets in my route-layer, and save the route and close it, the next time I open the route the ATLS-settings are back to off.

I'll will give it another try during the weekend.

Now, here is a picture with the settings where the cars stop when they should be driving and vice-versa ( I didn't change anything to the placement of ATLS-elements within the route, I just changed the settings of the ATLS-elements ( ref Advanced Traffic Light System – (ATLS) V2.1(Feb 2010) - atls1.pdf

Hi Kurt,

OK, well the first thing I see is that you have named the Controller, 'ATLS 10'. If you save with that name, the settings will NOT be retained and they will be off the next time you load the Route. You should name the controller, (in this case) as ATLS1[65,D,N]. If you do that, the settings will be retained when you next load the Route.

The Controller set up you have is fine. In this case... During Phase 1, Route 1 will 'go' and Route 2 will be 'stop'. During Phase 2, Route 1 will be 'stop' and Route 2 will be 'go'.

On the map you will need to set the Traffic Lights and Slaves correctly. From your picture, let's say that the North/South route is Route 1 and the West/East Route is Route 2. The Slave to the right of the Controller is connected to the North/South Stopper so set that to Route 1. The slave below the Controller is connected to the West/East Stopper so set that to Route 2.

Now set the traffic lights. The lights facing North/South, Main Light to Route 1. The lights facing West/East, Main Light to Route 2.

It should now work.

All the best,

Boat

Hello Boat,

Thank you for your assistance. Very much appreciated .

Herunder you will find some screenshots

a) Settings of the ATLS controller - I didn't give the name ATLS10. It was one of the features I noticed and thought it was part of a internal script. The name appeared when I clicked on the ? to change the settings of the ATLS controller

belgian46_20120720_0000.jpg

b) settings of the ATLS Traffic slave - Direction South-North ( which is route 2 - just like the manual )

belgian46_20120720_0001.jpg

Here no name appeared, but the ATLS1[65,D,N] changed into ATLS1[2,0,0]

c) settings of the ATLS Traffic slave - Direction West-East ( which is route 1 - just like the manual )

belgian46_20120720_0002.jpg

Again no name filled in - but ATLS1[2,0,0] changed into ATLS1[1,0,0]

d) Settings traffic lights - coming from the South riding North

belgian46_20120720_0003.jpg

no name appeared - but now I have ATLS1[UV,5K,L]

e) Settings traffic lights - coming from the West riding East

belgian46_20120720_0004.jpg

Now I have ATLS1[UV,2S,L]

f) Settings traffic lights - coming from the North riding South

belgian46_20120720_0005.jpg

Now ATLS1[UV,5K,L] reappeared.

g) Settings traffic lights - coming from the East riding West

belgian46_20120720_0006.jpg

ATLS1[UV,2S,L] reappeared

h) In driver mode - Cars stop before green light

Only 10 images are allowed - so the last one will appear in the next post

Hello Boat

i) In driver mode - Cars passing red light

Another option left - Is to place the route ( + session ) on dropbox for downloading.

Hi Kurt,

Set up the asset and then just type whatever the blue numbers/letters say into the 'Name:' box and it will save.

Set up the lights and Slaves as I described above and it should work.

Good luck,

Hello Boat,

I had another try and after some small obstacles I finally managed to get the main objective ( cars riding when traffic light is green, cars stopping when traffic light is red ).

belgian46_20120721_0000.jpg

What kind of small obstacles did I had? Well, for an unknown reason I could not fill in the characters [ ] in the asset name-box. So I typed the name in a word-doc, copied it and was able to paste it in the name-box.

Then I started with the settings of the ATLS-controller, the Slave and the traffic lights. When all was saved to the route-layer, I closed Trainz10, re-opened it and saw that I had made a small mistake with one of the traffic lights.

When I reopened the route for editing, all settings were still available, however not editable. I had to remove all settings within the ATLS-controller and Traffic lights before I could make the changes.

I will have to be well focused when I do other tests and when I start to use the ATLS-system on my own route. It will be better to put all settings on paper ( with drawing ) before starting the task.

I still have a question : Is there a special reason why the slave to the right of the Controller is connected to the North/South Stopper (Route 1 ). The slave below the Controller is connected to the West/East Stopper (Route 2. )?

Is this a standard situation or can it change depending on traffic situation?

Thank you

Best regards

No, it doesn't matter where you put the Slaves. I just observed that this is how you have connected them with invisible track on your map.

Just make a decision which direction is Route1 and which is Route 2 and set everything up correctly,

Boat

Hello,

What kind of intersection asset are you using in combination with Boat's ATLS system?

In my route, at this moment, I'm using the yarn intersection L2+4si+4sh asset. Probably because the spline circles are to close to the ATLS traffic stopper, which I have placed in the middle of the intersection ( see image herunder ), is the reason why the ATLS-system doesn't react in this case.

Is there a solution for this problem?

Best regards
