At what point does being understanding become being "taken advantage o

@Shane:

Apparently, to add to the general confusion, there are 2 Jetlog.txt files. One of them is in the root directory and the other is in the \bin directory. The \bin directory has this tidbit:

HiBaller,

I just ran an offline database repair, which completed fairly fast with no errors or warnings. I started CM 3.7 and it was in the "Today" tab. It showed the assets I modified earlier (and a few I didn't but the repair probably did). I went to switch tabs to "My Content" and it stuck again at the "Please Wait...". After waiting a few minutes (more than enough in my opinion), I killed CM with task manager. I left the TADDaemon and TrainzUtil to close on their own, which they did.

How can we run Trainz in total offline mode so we don't have to wait if connections cannot be made?

xcrossi,

That announcement was for 11 AM Australian time on May 7th. It is now about 9 AM on Wednesday, May 8th there. Hopefully, the good folks at N3V are done their morning coffee.

You killed the wrong one. You needed to stop TrainzUtil.exe and not CM. Killing CM can have not-so-good results on your database.

Whoopsie! Oh well, now that the server is OK, I'm running fine now. I'll do another repair just to make sure...:)

No need to fret guys, as with all probs in the past, they will surely iron out what remaining issue's there are.

@Hiballer,

Reasonably close to that time span, the black DLS reappeared just after 10 AM here. It's obviously nice to see they are working ahead of schedule.

Cheers ;)

That's MY WHOLE POINT... I, like you now, have in the past (With a few short lived digressions) taken a "they'll sort it out", "It's a niche product, so they don't have the huge saffing other game companies have", "yadda, yadda, yadda, blah, blah, blah"

Well, I'm running very low on both Yaddas and Blahs at the moment.

I'm fed up.

I've had it.

I demand answers, not excuses, not silence.

Of course in reality I am in a position to demand nothing. Which just adds to the frustration.

It has been a frustrating day, one where I spent no where near as much time playing the game as I had planned thanks to this nonsense. To add insult to injury, CM just spat the dummy on me. I was checking for some missing dependencies when it froze up and locked, needing task manager to close it. When I reopend it, it had flagged hundreds of items as faulty, even though they were fine 10 minutes before, including all my payware, which had been updated and was working perfectly. I had to re validate the whole lot.

Sorry to hear your gripes frogpipe, :confused:

For some unknown reason, I'm able connect to CM v3.7, scan a full EDR, search content and bring up the black DLS pages. All seems to be running smoothly (for now) on my end and I don't hear of any other aussies complaints if they're having problems like you are and others are experiencing.

I don't have all the answers and I don't want to assume, I can't say there are problems with your connection/server as it's evident you can post on the forum. Had you tried adjusting any of your CM preferences/settings, changing of pw etc ? There may or may not be any work around solutions required on your end. But wouldn't hurt to double check.

Since all this began the DLS came back up so that part works again. Before that happened, I managed to get clear of the trouble by simply waiting it out. Once I was able to get several "faulty" assets recognized as not being faulty, it started working properly.

What I had to do was wait at least 10 times longer then usual for the CM to "Show Errors and Warnings" on a set of assets it marked as faulty when this all started. Once it did it realized there was nothing wrong with them, and cleared the Faulty flag, it began running normally again.

My only guess is that I started the game at nearly the same instant the DLS went down, which somehow temporarily lobotomized trainzutil.

None of this however addresses the truly spotty performance of this "system" as a whole which lies at the heart of my frustrations.

I have found that clearing your cache and deleting your assets.tdx database completely after upgrading to SP1 alleviates a lot of problems. On next launch, the software will ask you to reenter your user id, password, and product keys, then start rebuilding the asset database. Once that's done, all the content flags will be set correctly.

I have nothing much more to add to this thread other than to report that at 1239 EDT / 1639 UTC on May 8, my content manager is not able to connect to Auran-- and it was connecting just fine about six hours ago. Rolling outages, perhaps?

Hi everybody.
I have been reading this thread while travelling on a real-life train (Southampton to Bristol Temple Meads regional service) and all I can say is that I am glad that the trains I travel on are more reliable than the Auran/N3V ones that run in trainz these days (LOL). When I had more time for trainz a few years ago it was a reliable, enjoyable simulator game where you just got on with building your route and driving your consists during your periods of relaxation.

These days with missing kuids, content errors and system downtime you seem to have to be not only a railway expert but a computer software expert and system analyser as well. It looks very much like all the fun is gone from the game unless you are somebody who enjoys a crisis.

With any luck I may be able to retire in a month or two's time and was thinking of returning to trainz. However after reading this forum over the last couple of weeks I am now starting to have real doubts about that. I want to relax and enjoy my ill gotten gains in my retirement and not sit in front of my monitor ripping my hair out over problems I had no part in creating.

As far as 3rd party assets, and independant creators assets that are uploaded to the DLS, I think N3V has little control if they work, or not ... I think they check them for errors.

TRS2006 works great ... I really haven't tested TS10
