I have started to build a completely new route. The number of items available to add is considerably less than are present in some of the preloaded routes. Newly downloaded material appears to be present. Any offers on how to overcome this?

Have you disabled any in cm ?
Or when in route surveyor, main menu, options, surveyor settings, check the lower box isn't ticked. (show favorites only)

I'm thinking it's the favourites feature at fault (Main Menu > Options > Surveyor Settings > scroll down and untick bottom box > click tick icon).
