assets.tdx - relation to local folder

On my laptop I spent hours going into the asset details of every item of rolling stock, and modifying their names. I did this because (I think) the Global Consist filter looks at the first word of an item's asset details name.

After doing that, I copied over the local folder to my desktop, thinking that would carry with it the changed names. it didn't, so I coped over the assets.tdx file, and that had the names in it.

My question is, was that a dumb thing to do? Do I take a chance of totally messing up the trains database, etc, by doing that? The filtering works as I wanted it to now on both the laptop and desktop, but I'm just hoping I didn't screw something else up.

Yeah, my filters worked fine, but the assets themselves were messed up - missing wheels, for one thing, on all rolling stock. So I had to go back to the old assets.tdx for the desktop.

Now it seems, I have to do the renaming again, hours of it, on the desktop. Oh well.

Gary,

You could have tried rebuilding the database. I think this would have had CM go through and reload the assets from the hard drive and synchronise with the copied over Assets.tdx file.
