asset x

Hello I am having trouble getting asset x to open in content manager , I can open it from my start page and it works fine. But from CMP nothing ,I have checked that the path is correct in tools folder .I am running trainz on the latest TS12 version and windows 8 pro. any ideas ???

I tried this and Trainz Swayer and the asset x opens in my build of 49922 but I never knew how to use it. I just right click an asset then open with asset x. You could also try opening the asset for edit before seeing the open with asset x show up as some of the content I edit does. OH YA or clone the object!!! Cheers William.

to answer my original problem, looked at other apps that opened in CMP and found that some had the whole file in the open with . So I copied the assetX file into bin/tools and reopened content manager and clicked on a asset and scrolled down to open with and clicked on assetX and asset X opened up to edit asset.

In AssetX set your path to TS12 in the Paths and Files configuration page. Then change to the Preferences page and set the Open With for TS12. It might help to toggle this if it is already set.

This puts a smaller version of AssetX.exe in your ...\Trainz\bin\CMPData\tools\OpenWith folder along with an AssetX.ini file which points to the real AssetX.exe file and a little bit of information needed by the program.

To quote the AssetX help file on this matter: Due to limitations in the way that CMP handles external commands AssetX will not operate correctly if it is installed into CMP by any other means.

There is a new version of AssetX on the way.

In all the years I've been using AssetX, I never understood how to add it to CM's "Open With..." list, until now. Thank you, thank you.

Now I just need to figure out how I ended up with 2 menu options for opening an .im file with Mesh Viewer when I right-click a mesh in AssetX. One says "Open (Mesh_Viewer.exe) and this always works, while the other says "Open in Mesh Viewer" and that opens the Viewer but no mesh appears... Yeah, first-world problem, I know.

'Open (Mesh_Viewer.exe)' is installed automatically as a result of your defining Mesh_Viewer as the default application in Windows.

'Open in Mesh Viewer' is probably defined as a tool but with its parameters incorrectly set.

Go to Options/Configure Tools and select *.im in the drop down.

You will probably see 'Open in Mesh Viewer' listed on the left hand side. Right click and delete it, the other option will still be present.
