Article: Help take Trainz to the top!

I'll be honest, these are pretty stupid. I'm tired of seeing N3V making mobile cash grabs and I wish they would focus more on improving the main trainz simulator. Oh well, they're making more money I guess. Highly unlikely I will get another N3V product.

If the gaming "apps" my missus uses on the iPad are anything to go by, be assured there is no such thing as a free lunch and in the long term can cost far more than a conventional PC or console game. "Freemium" = PAYG. Even if the app conversions were outsourced, I would much rather see time and effort on getting TANE up to scratch, HF2 thus far seems about as useful as a chocolate teapot and in any event if you don't have a reliable PC base, you're not going to get new content that can be converted for the tablet apps.

Having used some of the products, they seem to be pretty good for the market they are aimed at. Not perfect as I was surprised to have the tunnel lining enter my cab at a couple of points.

I'm using a 2012 iPad (way less powerful than the latest and greatest), but decade old PC graphics ran without a noticable glitch.

The couple of journeys I bought cost the sum of £0.79 each, so I'll be able to buy quite a few for the cost of even the cheapest DLC for RailSim.

Worth looking at if you have an iPad handy.

If I can drag SWMBO off Simpsons Tapped Out, I'll get her to download one and start driving :hehe:

When will the Android versions appear. Google Android has a larger customer base than Apple Ios as far as I am aware, so are us Google fans to be forgotten by N3V once again.

I am about to buy a new Sony Z4 ten inch Android tablet, keyboard and chromecast. However If I do not have the Trainz apps I cannot give N3V any money by way of spin off from the above expenditure or give the good reviews you ask for, even if the apps are outstanding and deserve it

Amigacooke, Can an Ipad cast to a large screen tv or monitor via a chromecast or roko box. I have never owned any Apple products (being a Google fan at heart), so if the above can be carried out I may consider an ipad as against the Sony Android Z4 i am intent on buying at the moment.

I await for once on your overwhelming experience and knowledge in this area amigacooke for my total guidance (LOL)

If you have AppleTV (and a robust wireless network), AirPlay will send your sound and video to the display it's connected to.
There's also an AV adapter (sold separately like everything Apple) that will allow you to connect via standard HDMI, but video is limited to 720p.

My personal opinion; stick to the Android/Chrome ecosystem especially seeing how you're already settled in it quite comfortably.

I downloaded and installed free TDJ 1.0 onto my iPad 3 (iOS 7.1.2). When I tap the icon to run TDJ, the flash screen appears then immediately disappears. That's it. No joy. Tried uninstalling then re-installing but no change.

There is no Z in the new series. This is based upon research we have done with the current Apple search algorithms. Trainz is included in the "keywords" but not in the title. This allows more people who are searching simply for "train" or "trains" to find our products on the Appstore.

For those PC users concerned about us losing focus on those products, don't be. The content is created externally by 3rd parties and we create the products ready for release on the store. This does not involve much involvement at all from our core development team.

Also, as a point of interest, our App Store sales exceed our PC sales in total revenue, and in terms of actual volumes, iOS generates over 100x as many unit sales. This means that the mobile apps actually help us finance the PC and Mac development and without these products, there would be no Trainz at all - so even if you don't like these products, it may be worth trying not to discourage others from trying them!

And will there be an Android version? If so when can we expect that?

Android has a larger installed base, but iOS apps make five times as much money. There are a lot of cheap Android devices out there in the hands of people who don't have much money and don't buy many apps. Developers have to take that into account. What matters is how many buyers there are on each platform, not how many devices.
