As stated by Forester1, Ctrl+H is the "key" to hiding/showing the switch direction arrows when in Driver.
In Surveyor Classic the arrows are always visible on all switches that are in view. In Surveyor 2.0 only the arrows directly below the hovering mouse pointer will be visible.
Hold CTRL down and then press H and the arrows should disappear. However, if you are changing switch positions, then I would expect they would have to show up to show you the change in direction?
They didn't use to flash. The signal or the switchstand indicator showed that the turnout had changed. I just checked and it does it when a dispatcher controlled train changes the switch too.
