Are N3V selling steam versions of TS12

I visited the Auran shop and read that N3V are participating in the Steam summer sale. If this is true there will there be confusion in the minds of new users. Or is it me that is confused?

Ken

No, I saw it too. N3V promoting Steam's sale is crap unless they are going to provide patches for it. There are too many people already who have wasted their money on Steam's version of TS 12, only to find out that it's not compatible with N3V's version and patches.

That to me is stupid.
Auran know the steam version doesn't patch or does it ?
There will be more complaints and this time Auran won't be able to blame Steam for adding bits and making it non patchable because they are doing Steams job, advertising there product and selling it through the Auran shop.

I can see trouble brewing ìf N3V do not see sense and scrap this particular idea.

We get enough unhappy users as it is.

I don't think they are selling it through Auran's shop, but they are directing people to buy it from Steam, it's even being promoted on the Trainz FaceBook page. This means that possibly a lot of angry customers who buy it from Steam, only to find out that they are getting screwed by not being able to patch it to make it compatible with N3V's version and will be unable to use multiplayer.

Perhaps we are not privy to all the contractual agreements between N3V and Steam? Let the buyer beware.

This may well be the case. It doesn't make business sense that N3V would promote a third-party retailer that basically gives them pennies on the dollar, especially when N3V gets basically 100% of every sale made through their own store. In any case, as others have pointed out, this is likely to backfire on N3V, and does purchasers a disservice.

This is yet another sign that indicates that, N3V do not care about there customer's in the way that Auran used to care about us, the thin end of the wedge is getting bigger in my humble opinion.

In the first place, anyone who would deliberately sidestep buying an offical N3V Disc, or official N3V digital download, and instead went to Steam ... did so to save money (a whopping $10.00).

Oftentimes a $39.99 TS12 disc goes on sale, using a voucher, for less than the $24.99 price that Steam charges.

Possibly Steam is an unpatchable, knock off version, not the real thing. So if you cut corners and buy a bootleg 3rd party DVD "Unstoppable" movie from a street corner vender ... why would anyone do that ? You would see camera shake, and theatre goers walking in front of the handheld camera lens, and hear people munching on popcorn.

I support N3V directly, and always buy a game hard disc (mine came in 13 dayz on a slow boat, Oooo! Oooo!) ... also an official N3V digital download just must be the real deal

You reminded me of something, Cascade.

It's pretty well known that the Steam version is unpatchable, to say nothing of the other problems it introduces. It's reasonable to expect that buyers conduct SOME due diligence - especially when this has always been a requirement of the software industry and, more recently, the gaming biz. Gone are the days when you could buy a game and reasonably expect it to work without some sort of major caveat: You had better do some homework before buying anything, as I've found out myself. I still have to wonder what N3V's rationale is for promoting what is effectively another vendor's product, though.

Very good advice, especially when this person has had a hand in setting up the security of your system, then tells you if it goes wrong it's your fault, if he knows more than you & sets up the defences, who's fault is it when the nasty gets through ??????????????

Hmm, not sure what that has to do with the price of tea in China but I do see a common thread: People who have anti-virus software still sometimes get owned because they don't conduct due diligence and get careless just as people who purchase the wrong program get screwed by not conducting proper due diligence. Seems to have a common thread - be careless and look what happens.

I was just lucky I saw the N3V versions first, only read about all the other troubles and wisened up through this forum afterwards.
I have also seen a TR12 download available for free on certain sites, but I want nothing to do with it .
It will be interesting to hear comment from a rep from N3V.

I bought 2009 through Steam. It took several years to update.

With Trainz12 it is different because of multi-player. The Steam version basically doesn't have MP because it will never match the N3V version.

Sorta wrong advertising the Steam version with multi-player.

Same here. I'm doing what I can to highlight the risks.

The cost saving is not worth the hassle involved.

UK users do have another option though - Just Trains. Their versions do not have patching issues normally.

UK users like anybody else also have another option, order a boxed set and wait patiently, 2 words that people seem unable to grasp the meaning of these days.
