I am wanting to save all my content by archiving, I have downloaded and installed but it seems not to be working, as I am planning another hardware update. When it seems to be archiving and then maybe finished, you look in CM archive nothing there. Am i doing something wrong. or is there a size limit probably 20gb worth all up. To save my route (6months worth) I have [plenty of CDP files> Do we just copy the most recent CDP to a external hardrive, do the upgrade and then re-install. from the external hardrive. And should everything be there. A bit of advise would be appreciated.

Sean,

Copy your complete user data folder to another drive. This will save everything.
Save your route files separately in the CDPs just as you have. You can copy those too. I happen to put mine in a folder called Trainz Route Backups. My CDPs are versioned dated in their file name, and contain both the route and the session unless I specify otherwise.

When you are finished upgrading your hardware, you can reinstall Trainz wherever you want, and the copy the complete Userdata folder back in, overwriting any content already installed.

thanks for that, when I re-install trainz do I have to do all that tedious patching again or will the user data folder take care of that.
once again thanks.

Hi Sean,

You'll need to repatch, but the good thing is this should go quickly because there will be no additional content to squish through.

I usually start the patching at bedtime, and let the program do its thing. When I get up in the morning, the process should complete. I do this to avoid doing other things on the computer that will jeopardize the upgrade and patching process.
